I have severs insomnia, and have tried things such as Ambien (which I am banned from now), klonopin, ativan etc. but nothing seems to help me get to sleep and STAY asleep. My Pdoc recently Rx me restoril. I am to taks 30-45mg a night, and it seemed to work the first night or to, but only to the point that I dissassociated SO MUCH more than normal, which resulted in me implusively roaming around outside at 3am and going back to cutting whichI had been clean of for weeks. But I did sleep OK once I got to sleep. Now it seems to be losing it's effectiveness, seeing as I took 30mg at about 10 tonight and it is now 1:46 am and I am still up with only the slightest ffeeling of tiredness (even though I worked 9.5 hours today and all). Has Restoril worked for anyone at this does before, is it just me? Should I ask for something else? My Pdoc suggested that he wanted to probably try me on Seroquel once my finals are over (since it has the tendency to knock people out for long periods of time). I really want to do this as I am desperate for both escape and jsut plain sleep. Any experiences with Restoril or Seroquel would be greatly appreciated (especially the effects of weight gain on the Seroquel, which concerns me the most) Thanks a million!

Hey poptardqueen

I'm on seroquel. I have been for about 10 to 12 months. It is great at night . Its like taking sleeping pills. It nokes me right out. Problem is, its addictive and now I find I depend on it for sleep. I don't know what I will do if I ever go of it.
As far as the weight gain! I never really gained but I do get the munchies at night once my meds kick in and I even eat in my sleep some times. That probably doesn't happen to everyone who takes seroquel though. By the way, one more thing. I find on a higher doss, I tend to loss hair. Not a problem on a lower doss though. Anyway I hope that helps you.

Take Care

I have a really bad sleeping disorder also it took months to find a reasonable combination. At night: Gabitril 4mg, Trileptal 450mg, Restoril 15-30mg. During the day, Prozac 20mg and Provigil 10mg. I now sleep 6 hours most nights.
