I can't take this!!!! I take luvox and I upped it two weeks ago like I'm suppossed to. But for the last few days, I've been getting increasingly agitated, bad. I can't think straight, concentrate, read, watch tv anything relaxing. I feel like I have restless legs, except all over my body. I flipped out on my husband big time this morning, totally unlike me.

My pdoc called me back, and said to cut my luvox down by 25mg. I'm so bummed out, I've tried every ssri except prozac, and this happens on every one of them. I can never get to a theraputic dose because of this.

So now what? I have major anxiety and OCD pretty bad. I won't take a tricyclic ad-too afraid to. I take klonopin four .5mg tablets a day, and 25mg of seroquel for sleep. My husband thinks I need to go to a mental hospital to get things straightened out, but I did that before and all they did was take away my klonopin(I complained of chest pain, and the pdoc thought it was the klonopin, took it away overnight. After 6 years on it. Thanks.Turns out, I had bad GERD. He gave me prilosec, but no more klonopin, a**hole). Then, they doped me up with halcion and ativan, which gave me eps, my jaw locked up. Then, they doped me up with benedryl, seroquel, celexa and depakote. After ten days, I was worse than when I went in. I understand why people try to escape mental hospitals, I truly do.

Sorry, I"m feeling pretty hopeless right now. I'm so sick of nothing working and trying every med under the sun, like a damned guinea pig. Therapy with a 20 year old was a joke, although I'm going to try it again with someone else. At least there's no side effects there.

I really don't know what to do.

Prozac made me aggressive, I was recently prescribed Citalopram (SSRI) it also made me very angry, jumpy (exactly as you describe) bad tempered, irrational, queasy, headache., appetite and sex drive switched off ...I could not persevere with it, I stopped after 3 days.
I'm back on tricyclics, at least I know they don't don't have any disastrous side effects (for me anyway !).
Coming off SSRI's (to my knowledge, and in my experience) is much worse than coming off other a/d's.
As we all know though, what is a disaster for one person can be another person's saviour. I'd talk to your doctor again.
I hope you get sorted out, it can make life hell for the people we live with too. I had to stop as I was giving my partner hell and yelling at my children.

How much luvox were you taking as I've taken it for years and it's the only SSRI that gives me no side effects. I do take valium, lunesta and .5xanax with it. It hasn't made me better but not the horrible side effects of the others. Love Phillipa

Thanks guys, I really appreciate the thoughts.
I never thought my headaches and nausea could be from my luvox. I was wondering what was up, as I never get nauseous.
I didn't take my early evening dose of luvox, just my klonopin. Oh my gosh, I actually felt relaxed and sleepy after the klonopin. No rage either. Some agitation still. It's not the klonopin, as I took my usual dose, it was the lack of luvox! But, after I took my morning dose today, I'm feeling agitated again. I'm giving it one more day, then I'm calling my pdoc again.

And yeah, ssri's are heck to come off of. I need to hole myself up in my bedroom so I don't bite anybody's head off!!

It is very possible that with all of the multiple failed med trials and adverse side effects you are having, you could have an underlying bipolar spectrum disorder. Has your p-doc ever suggested this to you? This should be a red flag and looked more into. If you don't mind telling me, how old are you and what symptoms presented prior to medication? Medication induced anxiety/aggitation/restlessness etc.. COULD indicate the above, however, your diagnosis should come from your p-doc . Please contact your p-doc if this was not discussed with you.

Hi Polarbear.
Well, yes my pdoc had thought in the past that I was bipolar(didn't say which kind). I've been given carbamazepine, depakote, valproic acid, and lithium. (I'm very afraid of medicines that make me very drowsy, sounds crazy but I'm afraid I'll stop breathing. So I'd stop taking them). The last few months, she's been saying she doesn't see bipolar in me. So she must still be thinking about it ( I don't bring it up).

I'm thirty-six. The symptoms I had before being medicated(about seven years ago) was panic attacks, constant anxiety, a weird obsession with my breathing(I had to control it every minute I was awake) and depression. I've battled with severe depression bouts most of my life.

My pdoc did say * I wonder if it's(luvox) making you manic*.

Thanks Polarbear.

HI,

Have you tried Lamictal? No side effects of weight gain, or drowsiness. It has a very good track record. I can't say enough good things about it. I have soft bipolar. I take 200mg of Lamictal with effexor 150mg and wellbutrin 150mg.

Hi.

No, I haven't tried Lamictal. My pdoc prescribed it for me, but the insurance wouldn't pay for it until I have had a fair trial and failed on another bipolar medicine. I have insurance through my county, so it's not up to me or her what they'll pay for. It's too bad, she thought it would really work for me. Of course, I don't understand how long a fair trial would be. The insurance had proof of different prescriptions picked up for months. Ah, who knows. Maybe I should re-try something for awhile, and see what happens. I have loads of bipolar medicine sitting in my closet. Of course, after talking to my pdoc.

Thanks, tokidoki.

You can get your doc to fill out a waiver that says that this med is the one you need, and going through trials of others is medically contraindicated.

That sounds great. Thanks for the info. I'm going to let her know about it. I looked up Lamictal, and it sounds great unlike the others I've taken.

Thanks, Tokidoki
