Hi. I was looking for opinions on what I can expect while increasing my dose of Lexapro. Good effects, or not so good ones.
I started Lexapro about a year ago, when things got so bad I couldn't take it anymore. I started on 10 mg, and stayed there until a week and a half ago. When I went to this doctors appointment, I saw a different doctor at the clinic I go to, and he said the normal dose is 20 mg. He also noticed I was anxious, more than I should be if it was being successfully controlled. I hadn't been to the doctor in about 6 months so he decided to bump the dose up to 20 mg and see what happens.
I think I may feel more...energetic, I think? I also think I may be getting feelings of anger...like almost like a panic attack, but an angry attack. I dunno if that makes sense.....I could just be making it up. I was wondering if that does make sense when increasing meds, or am I just grasping at straws?
Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

I think it's time for an increase, and think it's great that you were helped that long on a low dose?! I can't say much about meds, that's not my area of expertise and can only state from my own experience. If it's been more than a week or so, and you still feel hyper? then be sure to call your doctor and ask him, I guess.

Sorry none of our volunteer med experts have caught this question yet.. .hopefully they will weigh in soon. TC!

From my own experience I went from 10 to 20 to 30 - I found that "angry attacks" were fairly common for me at 30 and then off course at that level I had severe sexual side effects.

I would certainly talk to your doctor about this...

Thanks for your input. I have an appointment on the 30th to follow up with the increase. I'll mention what I said here to him and see what he has to say.

I like my 10 mg of Lexapro and I hope I don't have to increase. I hope you get the problem figured out.

My doc put me on Lexapro because I was getting angry all the time and I did not like that - I too have a temper but with the 10 mg's of Lexapro I have not had any problem keeping my "mad" under control. Good luck.

Generally Lexapro is well tolerated in most adults. Some of the most common side effects include: nausea, insomnia, increased sweating, fatigue, and decrease in libido.

Lexapro is indicated for the treatment of major depression and generalized anxiety disorder.

Generally the starting dose for Lexapro is 10mg once daily. In studies with patients with major depression, most patients did not respond better to the 20mg dose than the 10mg dose. Maintenance dose for most patients has shown to be either 10mg or 20mg. So 20mg once daily is a perfectly acceptable dose.
