Ok, I have gotten some medication suggestions from others which include: Viibryd, Lamictal, Latuda, Abilify, Remeron, Wellbutrin, and Buspar. Does anyone have any experience with and of these for severe depression? I am looking for anything that will help.

Abilify made me manic and get akathisia. I can see how it can boost your mood, just did it too much in my case. 15mg of Remeron was added to my med regimen while in the hospital, I'm still not sure if it helps or if it's not making a difference one way or another.

I was on Remeron for about a month - for me it was worse than useless (suicidal ideation).

What combos? Like my post said, I haven't taken any of these. They are just different things that have been suggested to me. I wanted to see if anyone had any opinions on any of them.

I'm on Abilify (well, the generic now) and it's not an antidepressant, it's an anti psychotic. If you have delusions or hallucinations, you might consider taking it but it takes many weeks to kick in. Wellbutrin did nothing I noticed (took it years ago to try to quit smoking).

I have enjoyed many of those meds. What has not worked so far? What symptoms do you seek relief from?

My current combo rocks for me.

I had 15 mg Remeron added to my 60 mg Cymbalta about 6 months ago. It has worked great. The Cymbalta had basically stopped working, but the two of them together are a good combination for me.

Abilify can actually be used to treat major depression, especially if it's to augment an SSRI or SNRI. Apparently it's classified as an "atypical antipsychotic." I'm on Cymbalta, and still having issues with depression. My p-doc said we could try adding either Abilify or Wellbutrin to help. I went with the Wellbutrin (since it's been around longer), but I can't say how much it's helping because it's been less than a week.
Thanks for this!

I'm sorry. I posted much more info in another thread, but no one responded. I am suffering from major depression. I take 60 mg of Cymbalta now but it is not helping much. I have tried many things in the past, but have not tried any of the thing I listed above and nothing has been a long term help at all. The only other med I was taking is adderall xr but I stopped that. I don't think that is a good fit for me. I am mostly looking for something to help with the deep depression and lack of motivation.

There is genetic testing that can be done now that can help your provider know what medications your more "likely' to respond better too..

Worth asking your Pdoc about it.

I hope you find something that is helpful.

Have they talked about upping your Cymbalta? I take the max dose along with Lamictal (which really helped me) and Latuda. Latuda is mostly an AP, but they've started using it for severe bipolar depression as well. Wellbutrin did nothing for me.

I used to respond to Abilify, but eventually for some reason it stopped working. Perhaps you could try Abilify combined with an antidepressant?
