At the moment, it feels like my dosage is increased a big amount every 5 seconds. I know that we are still finding what works, but it is just annoying. Like now I am on 80 mg of Latuda (started with 20mg 1.5 weeks ago) and 500 mg of Seroquel (started with 25mg 1 week ago) and now, to help with the side effects (which I don't have much), I am starting Benztropine tonight.

All of these meds are definitely biting my mania in the butt, but all day I feel like I am on a roller coaster because the Seroquel wears off before my next dose, making me hypomanic, then I take it, get knocked out for an hour, then go hypomanic, etc.

I am wondering about mood stabilizers.... I may bring those up to my PRN and see what she thinks.

Anyone want to share opinions about Seroquel, Latuda, or Benztropine? Anyone been on any combination of these 3? How did you feel?

TIA

Hi secretgalaxy. It is frustrating when trying to keep mania down. I am not a psychiatrist so I will not suggest any meds. I can show you some links in the Psych Central archives that mention the meds you mention. If you want there is a search box upper right corner (scroll up) and you can do your own search. It is better IMO than waiting for someone with the same situation to post.
Psych Central - Search results for Seroquel, Latuda, or Benztropine

What my doctor did before was split the dose into two doses one in the morning and one in the evening when similar things were happening to me.

I'm on lexapro (antidepressant) Largactil and Abilify (antipsychotics) and benztropine/cogentin (anticholinergic). But I don't have bipolar (I have c-ptsd, anxiety and depression), so I can't say how benztropine would work for you. It is said to have a sedating effect, so too does seroquel. I'm not sure about latuda. It's best just to notice the changes that take place and keep your doc informed. Don't be afraid to speak up if it's not going well.

Well, taking 500mg a day only worked for two days. I have been up for 39-40 hours and will probably be up the whole night. We will see what happens! Tomorrow I will probably been seen by the PN who is a part in my PHP.

So far, the Benztropine has only stopped the ticks, but hasn't sedated me much. The Latuda has somewhat stopped the voices, and the Seroquel doesn't work anymore, so I am getting close to being full-blown manic. At the moment, I can still somewhat know that some thoughts are real or factual, but it is getting harder to do that.

I have not tried Benztropine, but I have tried Seroquel and Latuda. I did not like Seroquel, it made me feel like a zombie all the time. Is that the case with you? As for Latuda, I am on 120 mg but my bipolar depression has only gotten worse and worse. I responded best to lithium, but it made me gain weight rapidly. Abilify used to work for me, maybe you should try it out. Good luck!

Typically alot of Pdocs hit someone with Zyprexa on top of there current meds to slam that mania down and allow a person to get much needed sleep that will help break the mania cycle. Cogentin isnt a medications that is use for any sedating effect.

Are you on straight Seroquel? or the XR? Most people report the XR is much more sedating and longer acting as thats its formula .

I would ask about Zyprexa if only for a short term to help the mania. yes it causes weight gain but as a short term you should be able to manage that for a lil while.

Good luck

I am seeing her tomorrow, so I will definitely ask about Zyprexa!

The seroquel only makes me feel like a zombie for 30 minutes, then I am back too being manic. It doesn't seem to be working like it should.

I am on the generic version of Seroquel. Is that what XR means?
