Today I saw my primary doctor & between horrible crying jags and the shock of him telling me to lose 3lbs (I just lost 50 in 5 months) he kinda laughed and immediately made a script for celexa.
My question is he doesn't know if it's bipolar disorder, which it shouldn't be used for, or any number of diagnoses that the therapist will sort out. Do I take it anyway? I won't see THAT doctor for possibly 2 weeks.
He also said he could alternately prescribe Zoloft. I'm confused because I've never been medicated before.

Do you have a pdoc (psychiatrist)? I would advise finding one to help with a diagnoses and prescribing proper medication if need be.
Thanks for this!

I agree with gina re, especially because you have no experience with psychiatric medication.
Thanks for this!

I also think seeing a psychiatrist first would be beneficial.

Well.. Then all my studying was not in vain. I didn't think it was a good idea that he was "blanketing" all depression the same. And I've gone THIS month focusing on nothing but implementing coping skills.
A week longer, with the help I have here, won't make a difference. Asking for help, to me, means that I'm coherent enough to stay safe.
Again. Thank you ...xoxo

I wouldn't take the risk w the meds . I would get a second opinion from a psychiatrist who knows about medications more than your regular doctor .ask your therapist about referring you to a psychiatrist .my therapist did refer me to a psychiatrist to get me back on meds in order to keep my therapist .

I would speak to a psychiatrist since they are trained for this. A gp only knows so much about psychiatric disorders and medications. I wouldn't risk it and let something down the road happen.
