I have been on Lamotragine for 8+ years now. It has worked somewhat. But as of lately it seems to not work as well. I was given Sertaline (zoloft) for deeper depression, that has helped occasionally. I need to back up. I have BP-1. I am wondering does Lamotragine (Lamictal) loose its effect after long periods of use? I am on 200mg Lamictal, and I think 20 mg Sertaline. I have started to become much more iritable, anxious, even a little paranoid. This has not happened so strong with me since I started These meds. Any guidance? I also heard that Latuda is now prescribed for BP1 any one had any luck with this?

I couldn't take lamictal because it gave me a rash, and the first time I tried Latuda was when I was still very deep in my eating disorder so I couldn't really take it (you have to take it with food, preferably about 300 calories, and I was eating a total of maybe 500 calories a day)...but now that I'm in remission, I find Latuda to be extremely helpful. I've been on it this second time around for months now, and I wouldn't change it for anything. Not once have I even gotten hypomanic while on it. I did hit a deep depression when my Zoloft pooped out on me after 2 years of service, but a change in meds to Wellbutrin fixed that up real quick!

I was on 200mg without good effect- they then increased it to 300mg, and wow, did that make a difference! It's a life saver now. Maybe discuss a possible increase with you PDOC? Good luck

Hey thank you. I need to see a new p doc. Mine retired a few years ago. I have been getting my meds through my family doc.
Does anyone know a good p doc in UT or AZ?

I'm currently up to 200 mg 2xday, along with buspirone and citalopram (can't remember dosages), which I think may be about the max they prescribe. It seems to be working for the most part, but sometimes it doesn't seem to work as well as it used to.

I loved Lamictal, I was on it for a little over 2 years, and my max dose was 200mg once per day. However I thought it started to lose it's steam and I stopped it (wrong idea). I went thru the worst depression in my life withdrawing from it, so I don't suggest you cold turkey it or drop down in doseages in large amounts. I am now on Zonegran and it seems to work well, although it is rarely used in psychiatry.

I also take Lamictal. I would highly encourage you to communicate with your MD so everyone is on the same page. I am a firm believer that meds only do so much as I have been on several in my time but nothing has ever really helped. They make me stable but the depression and anxiety are still lingering. That is exactly why I am attempting to work through all the garbage inside me that I have never dealt with in an attempt to gain insight and personal growth. Also, the only true way to know if a med will be beneficial is to try it. Best wishes to you!
