I've been writting a lot in the forums lately but anyways... I've been making very impulsive and poor decisions and what not; which include drinking, drugs, meeting strangers at my home; making plans for continuing such activities; and meeting men for casual sex. It seems that maybe my behavior might be considered to be self injurious, inappropriate, self defeating or sabotaging. If you want to know more just ask or read my posts from general to bipolar to sexual something or other. Some of you think that my impulsive behavior may be due in part by bpd or maybe mania or something like it and so meds might be the way to go.... I was wondering what seems to help others? I am currently taking quite the mix: seroquel, effexor, lithium, trilafon, artane, and non psychiatrics: atenelol, lisinopril, pepcid. Look forward to hearing back from someone. Thanks, all

Could it be that meds themselves are actually causing the impulsive behavior? I think a side effect of some meds is "disinhibition," and some of those behaviors you list fall into that category. Maybe it could help to simplify the mix of meds you take or eliminate them one by one to see which is the culprit. your pdoc will have some ideas on how to approach that.

(I started a couple of weeks ago on a new drug and experienced some disinhibition in the first few days, but this went away.)

Good luck.

I agree that maybe it could be caused by meds. On the other hand, I've been on all these meds for atleast 2 months. I agree talking to the doctor might help; however, I am reluctant to do so eventhoug I'm sure he's seen and heard it all it doesn't change the fact that I made some poor decisions and seem to be continuing that in making near future plans and what not.
