Hi! Sorry for the weird mix in the title, I just don't want to make a ton of individual threads and be annoying. :P
I met with my pdoc today and instead of Cymbalta I am starting nefazodone. I'm the tiniest bit worried about the whole possible kidney/liver problems that caused the discontinuation of brand name Serzone, but mostly I'm desperate and can't really be bothered to care right now. Does anybody have any experience with nefazodone for depression, anxiety, and/or social anxiety? I also have been on Ritalin for almost a week. Trying to experiment with the dosage has been a little confusing. Sometimes I think it's helping some, and sometimes I can't tell or even think it could be hurting, but I'm experimenting and giving it time. It's so hard to tell what changes could be from it, and what could just be from natural fluctuations when I'm in a kind of unwell, unstable state like this. ![]() ![]() Anyway, I'm wondering if anyone has any advice on Ritalin/stimulants for depression? I've been researching, but if the Ritalin doesn't work out and I want to try another I'm having trouble finding which option would be best and cause the least anxiety. I was also hoping a stimulant would be more prosocial, but I'm thinking it might be the opposite for me if anything, so far. :/ Also, I've been suspecting I could have inattentive ADHD and looking into it, but I'm not certain. Either way, though, reading has made me wonder... Are there any typically ADHD type drugs other than stimulants that are used for depression ever? I read about meds being described as "cognitive enhancing drugs," and know that's something that would help with my depression so much, though of course I know it can affect a mind with ADHD and a mind with just depression differently. I was going to try Cerefolin or Deplin, which I know are supposed to be kind of cognitively enhancing for depression, but insurance won't cover them. I'd love it if I could find anything similar that would have a better chance of being covered. And one last question also on the subject of add ons, has anything had success with any sort of uncommon or off-label augmentation for depression/anxiety? What I mean is, I feel like I've gone through the list of the more typical ones I see, and have either tried them or would not be willing to. I'm just kind of trying to explore any other options outside of antidepressants that could help. I'm on Lamictal and it helps, want to avoid anti-psychotics (though I'm kinda considering Rexulti...), I tried buspirone years ago plus most of what I've heard about it is that it's useless, though I don't remember much about it so I might consider adding it to the list. I've been curious about dopaminergic drugs, since I know I have a definite dopamine problem, but am exploring stimulants first. I know I've heard about Pramipexole and other Parkinson's meds being used off-label for depression. I've also considered Lyrica as far as off-label things, but I can't afford to gain any weight. I'm just pretty lost and looking for anything that could help if my current trials fail, and I feel like I'm running out of options. My psych is pretty much useless (literally just asks me what I want to try, usually with zero guidance), and I'm overwhelmed, getting worse, desperate to get better, and freaking out. This site is comforting while I'm feeling lost and not as capable of research, so I hope everyone can excuse my possible excessive, long threads. ![]() Thanks so much in advance for any replies. ![]() |

I have never taken a stimulant nor nefazodone. I'm guessing it was something in the brand name rather than the formula of the generics.
Some psychiatrists have no problem prescribing Tramadol for depression. You can read reviews for it if you google "Tramadol reviews for depression." Remember though, stimulants and Tramadol both have abuse potential. Tegretol, Depakote, Trileptal, and lithium can all be used off label in the treatment of major depressive disorder. I haven't tried them yet, but I have considered taking them before. I was on Topamax (used off-label as a mood stabilizer) with antidepressants and it helped, but I'm not sure if it was the Topamax alone. Buspar was useless for me, btw. Might try gabapentin for anxiety, but I'm not sure. Hope that you are feeling better soon! ![]() |
