My doctor prescribed once a day at bedtime. I'm reading that it should be twice a day with food. How do you take it?

Always take it with food. Geodon is different than a lot of meds. Usually when a drug is supposed to be taken with food, it is to help from making your stomach upset or whatever.

If you take Geodon on an empty stomach it will do nothing for you. You might as well not have taken it.

Its bio-availability depends on what you just ate. The more calories you just ate(up to some limit I am not sure of) the higher percentage of the drug will get absorbed into your system.

How many times a day depends on what your prescription says.

My bottle says to take at bedtime. Nothing about food. So without food, am I really taking the prescribed dose?

I don't know what the calorie/bio-availability ratio is and it is very possible I overstated how little effect it has on an empty stomach, you will probably get some without food, but not as much with. My pdoc told me about it and searching geodon food will give lots of information about it. I hate to say to take it against the prescription instructions. Here is one article discussing it.

My doc said around 500 calories with high protein is the best.

The one good thing about it is my diet is really healthy now.

It does require food in order to metabolize correctly. Personally, I took a few hours before bedtime so it had time to kick in and help me sleep AND because if I took it much later than about 7PM, the drowsiness in the morning was horrendous. Eventually I just had to stop taking it because the drowsiness was just to extreme for me no matter how early I took it. It worked for my symptoms well, but the sedation was overwhelming and never improved.

I have been taking geodon on an empty stomach at 8 pm. I've heard to take it with food. Would that be dinner or an after dinner snack? Wondering because I usually have dinner at 5. Will I be falling asleep by 8?

I take Geodon at dinner time, it doesn't make me tired. I take twice a day though.

My pdoc and the drug representative said to take it with at least 300 calories. It can be taken AM or PM. As it can cause drowsiness, many take it in the evening to start out or for their primary dose.

I thought geodon was usually prescribed twice a day dosing.
Yes and I had heard the 500 high fat calories requirement so that is bigger than a snack.
and I am not tired after my am dose so would take it with dinner.
I take klonipin to sleep.
