I take 100 mg of Seroquel a day and I was wondering if any of you experienced weight gain with the Seroquel. I feel like it's really helping me but I'm worried about weight gain.

I gained 40 pounds but it was really helping with the depression. I was also using it for sleep but it was only working a little but for that. I was on 100mg and I was going to up it to 150mg but my dr on Monday decided to switch me to Saphris. He wanted to see if that helped with the weight gain. Only problem is it won't help as much with the sleep. I have only slept 3 hours each of the last two nights.

I'm on 300 mg /daily and haven't gained any weight on it. Working with a dietitian has actually allowed me to drop 20 lbs.

I have gained weight since starting on medication, but I'm not sure what the culprit is, since I've tried several meds that cause weight gain. My biggest weight gain was when I was on Depakote. I haven't gained any more weight since getting off of Depakote, but I can't seem to lose it either, and I blame the Seroquel and maybe Abilify for that.

I appreciate the input.
I also took Abilify one time and that definitely put weight on me. |

Yes, when I was taking between 250-300mg of Seroquel I gained about 30 lbs.

It never has for me in the past, but I think that in conjunction with Zyprexa it has made me gain some...but I've been on up to 800mg/day with absolutely no weight gain.

When I was on that medication I gained about twenty-five pounds. I went off of it because it did not help my specific symptoms. As far as I know weight gain isn't an official side effect but it happens to a lot of people. However, if it is working for you mentally, keep on it. Decide what matters to you more

I should have weighed myself before beginning this medicine so I could have kept track. I don't know if I've put on weight yet or not.

What are you guys taking it for? My doctor wants to give it to me for anxiety, but she did mention weight gain is a big issue with it.

I started taking Saphris Monday night and I have lost 3.5 pounds since then. I am really hoping it lets me take off all the weight that I gained from the Seroquel.

I've gained about 80 pounds on it. It makes me ravenously hungry and I tend to eat until I fall asleep almost every night. Tried Saphris - it helped with the hunger and I actually lost weight without trying. However, Seroquel has an antidepressant effect at doses of 300mg or higher, while Saphris does not, and I had to switch back to the Seroquel when I became depressed again. Can't take actual antidepressants anymore because they make me manic.

Yikes, yes. Over a three-year period I gained 50 pounds. Didn't fit any of my clothes anymore. It was so depressing. I went up two, almost three, dress sizes, so at one point I was a 12 (US 8) going on 14. Almost didn't recognise myself. When I came off it and switched to Lamictal, I lost it all in six months, so back to being a size 8 (US 4) now. I could finally wear my clothes again - it was like going shopping in my own wardrobe as most of it I had not been able to wear for 2+ years! I now feel like myself again whenever I look in the mirror. Being so big was soul-destroying for me.

i was doing very well losing weight (20lb in 3mos) when my pdoc prescribed Metformin in addition to the Seroquel. But then I was prescribed Citalopram added to the cocktail and in the last 7mos have put on an alarming amount of weight (35lbs). I've discontinued the Citalopram as per his instructions and hope I lose the weight as I'm devastated. I have never been svelt but instead athletic so this sort of gain is devstating me.
Note: I eat very well and am active a minimum 60min per day. |

That's interesting, justafriend; when I was on citalopram I went from 125 to 114 pounds in just four weeks, and I couldn't sleep properly either. I ended up walking into a shelf and passing out as a result of it. It's interesting how the same medication can affect people so differently.

I'm bipolar II with major anxiety and am afraid I had serious weight gain. I was on 600mg for about 8 years. I put on about 70 pounds in the first couple years. Somehow managed to lose most of it and then put back on 80. As someone else mentioned it gave me insane cravings. I was so ravenous at night, if nothing else had been available, I think I would have eaten cardboard. And this from someone who had never had any weight issues previously. I always tended to be on the low side of "normal" in weight.
That said, it probably saved my life at the time. It stopped my obsessive, cyclical negative thinking. I would have a nasty memory come up and it would just cycle through my head non-stop. It also did help keep my lows from getting nearly as bad and helped with anxiety and sleep. The only way I was able to lose weight when taking it was a low carb diet, with mostly natural foods, keeping preservatives and such to a minimum. I'm currently slowly weaning off the Seroquel for lots of reasons. I'm on that good (for me) diet and exercising and had started losing weight, slowly, before I began weaning off. However, the lower my dose gets, the faster my weight drops. |

I take 400mg Seroquel and 10mg Zyprexa daily for schizophrenia, and I haven't experienced that much of a weight gain being on the two. However, I was pretty underweight (92lbs) when I started taking it. It made me gain a little weight, but it kept me stabilized at about 102lbs.

I gained a lot but I took 350 mg. 100 mg probably wouldn't be so bad.
