Does anyone know of any med that works like Zyprexa but doesn't cause the weight gain? I've gained about 30lbs since going on it maybe 4ish months ago (although I think some of it is from the Seroquel), and I absolutely hate how heavy I am and how fat I feel...but the thing is, Zyprexa is the gold standard for me and I keep ending up back on it because of that. I'm seeing my pdoc on Thursday and I'm hoping to possibly have ideas by then and talk to her about the weight gain.

My roommate is on Zyprexa and gained a lot of weight the first few months but it's been over a year now and she's back to her normal weight. She started going to the gym a few months ago but lost the weight before that.
I dunno about alternatives but if it works for you, I'd look at the seroquel instead. It seems to be known for weight gain, and I had horrible side effects on it when combined with other meds.
Seems to be a lot more alternatives for seroquel than there are for zyprexa, maybe talk with your doctor about whether the weight gain could be from the seroquel.

Working out has no effect on my weight, I've gained anyway. If I can't find an alternative I'm going to ask to have my dose lowered back to what it was because I'm pretty sure this extra weight I've put on is because of the increase.

Also, historically, seroquel has never made me gain weight, and I've been on it at least 2 or 3 times in the past...up to 800mg/day! So I highly doubt it's the seroquel.

As for alternatives, they are both AAPs so the alternatives are pretty much all the same -- different AAPs.

Abilify is supposed to be less weight gaining than other AAPs.

Anilify made me more depressed than I had ever been up to that point.

I saw my pdoc this morning and we talked about my weight gain, and she was understanding about me feeling that I can't gain any more. She said she would look into some alternatives, some of the newer drugs like Rexulti and we'd talk about it next time, but for now, don't mess with success.

In January I switched from Zyprexa to Clozapine. I'd been slowly tapering off the zyprexa for a few months by then. I lost a lot of weight - about 15 kg - during the taper and I have yet to regain it.

Oh, I gained 30 kg on Zyprexa. But I was rather underweight when I started. Now I have a healthy BMI.

Okay, so I see my pdoc next week and I really need to come in with some solid alternatives because I can't fit into shorts that I bought a month ago which means I've gained even more! I don't even want to know how much I weigh now, but I know it's enough that it makes me a fat cow.

Anyone know much about Vraylar or Rexulti? Would they possibly be a good alternative?
Thanks for this!
