Those of you who are taking several meds at once, can you tell how each one has an effect on you? Just something I was thinking about since I'm currently taking five. But each time one was added, it took away a certain problem I was having at the time.

Trileptal 1800mg Irritability, rage, dysphoric mania
Effexor 150mg Depression
Wellbutrin 300ms A dded on to help with the depression since I would sleep all day, it helped keep me up to do things
Lamictal 200mg Mood stability
Restoril 15mg Insomnia

Buspar: anxiety and depression
Nortritylene: depression and pain
Welbutrin: depression and energy
Cyclobenzaprine: sleep
and as needed:
Xanax: anxiety, sleep
Ambien: sleep
Zyprexa: out of control
Nuvigil: energy

None of the meds that I take for depression seem to make much of a difference. I have treatment resistant depression. I've tried a whole bunch of other AD, can't say that the ones I am on have any more of an effect. Pdoc just kept adding to the mix. For a while I was on Abilify to boost the AD. That didn't help much either. However, the depression seems to be lifting. It's been ages since I added any new drugs so I am not giving any of them the credit.

Latuda & lamictal ( I started them at the same time so took care of the same symptoms) great for my mixed mood symptoms and pretty sure they are the reason I'm still stable

Propranolol, anxiety

Ambien, sleep

150mg bupropion XL ---> depression
.5mg clonazepam x2 daily ---> anxiety
15mg Adderall XR ---> ADHD/ADD
200mg lamotrigine ---> mood stabilizer
50 mg topirimate ---> mood stabilizer

BPII, ADHD, GAD, BPD, Conversion Disorder, dissociation events, intermittent panic attacks, specific phobia, just being angry in general (probably related to BPD)

-CANNOT take antipsychotics. Couldn't even tolerate Abilify. That went poorly. Very, very, very, very, VERY poorly. Worst thing ever. Massive dissociative mental breakdown with recurrence of certain self destructive behaviors. NOPE. Psych was like "...Weeeeee're just going to avoid this med class all together." xD Even he noped out of that one pretty hard.

45 mg Remeron - It is supposed to be for my depression, it doesn't help it but it is great as a sleep aid.
1mg Klonopin - Anxiety sort of works
20 mg Geodon - Psychosis, works a little bit. I can't tolerate more than this dosage.
300mg Gabapentin - nerve pain, works and helps my anxiety a little and seizures a lot. Any higher dosage gives me the worst headaches I have ever had.

I take a few others for headaches and whatnot but have no bearing on my MH issues.

After 20+ years, this is the best I have found and it still sucks.

I noticed each med as I added them (well maybe not Lamictal for depression--but my pdoc likes it for mood control). I was on Seroquel but it gave me waking-up-in-the-night joint pain. I switched to Latuda which stopped that but gave me bad akathisia so we added propranolol till we got up to 80mg and that cured that. For sleep I had Ambien but it wasn't great. Switched to Lunesta which was better but not enough. Then I asked for 50mg of Seroquel to add and that works (no joint pain at that dose). Finally for the depression that was still there: Wellbutrin, now all the way up to 450mg with no problems.

It's definitely more drugs than I would want (with an occasional Xanax--though my supply of that is dwindling and my pdoc has turned anti benzodiazepine like all the rest it seems now), but for a while now everything has been hunky-dory. So I'm all in favor of med cocktails and I do think you can feel which is doing what, if you don't add them all at once.

I am on s cocktail also and feel like sometimes I take I take everything thing in that a drug store has. But I am a BPII and after 10 years of hell they finally found a mix that works perfectly. I have been on this mix for 9 years and wouldn't change it for anything as it took me forever to find this solution. It also is not a standard Pdoc mix that fix me so god help me if they don't leave a clear trail. So don't worry about the cocktail just go with what works.
