At this point I take doxepin, melatonin, vistaril, plus the topamax and primidone I am on for other reasons contribute to helping me sleep.

Seroquel has been the most successful medication for sleep for me. There's a little bit of a hangover effect that it sometimes gives if you take it too late and have somewhere to be early in the morning, but I tried taking it a little bit earlier, and I no longer experienced this. It's been a godsend. I can hold a job now. Without it, I get completely manic and stop sleeping.

Other meds that have been okay for sleep, but still nowhere near as effective for me: lorazepam, alprazolam, diphenhydramine, clonazepam.

So I tried Seroquel because my doc said maybe you can taper out Xanax if it helps anxiety. And people here says it does cause a cozy type of sleepiness, not a scary heaviness.

I tried half a pill. My body got so heavy and it was even tiresome to breathe. I dragged myself to bed to sleep with a last effort. Waking up I was a zombie. Was just in a bubble and didn't know or care.

I guess this wasn't my med. Most meds are not. I just wonder what I will do in a year when I can't get benzos anymore. Nothing else helps for calmness and sleep for me.

Most sleep meds don't work for me. But I just started temazepam and it has worked the last two nights.

A doctor who's not yours is going to be very reluctant to prescribe a scheduled drug like Ambien or Lunesta, I would think. Seroquel works great for me but he may not want to prescribe an antipsychotic either. (I'm assuming he's not a -psychiatrist.) Trazodone works well for some people.
