I am 38 yr old male and I take invega sustenna shots every month for psychosis and it's 78mg and since then there is almost no pleasure from orgasms while masturbation. I am concerned this is not good because orgasms are an important thing in your body most doctors would say. I don't wanna be embarassed front of my future partner.I read Peter R. Breggin M.D. He believes and has proved that all psych meds are harmful. Google him and see what he has to say. I have thought of completely stopping invega for good. I don't really wanna try any more medications. Has anyone ever experienced this I would like to hear your opinions and stories... and solutions. Thanks!
Thanks for this!

I know risperidone is terrible for this and invega is the active byproduct of risperidone. Basically it raises prolactin...in women it can stop your period and makes your breasts grow....men get the second.....
There are some things you can do to stop the prolactin....add metformin or Abilify.....while taking the invega if the invega works well for you.

Wow i don't like the idea of adding extra medication to my body. Why abilify? I don't know what is Metformin. I plan to see a doctor next week and see what he says instead of my invega doctor. She just isn't that good. It took quite some convincing to get her to lower the dose to 78mg but i wanna go more lower. I have been on injections for about 4 months now.

Because it's a partial agonist at the d2 receptor keeping prolactin low...

Metformin is a diabetes drug it also helps with prolactin and weight loss.

There are other antipsychotics out there bro. Risperdone was hell for me. I switched to Geodon and the difference was like pitchblack and heaven to me. Risperdone is some heavy ****. I hate my doctor for first prescribing that to me. Abilify should be the first one to try, followed by Geodon I believe.

Do you know how much Metformin you take to make it work? I have no idea if i should risk trying a different medication but i have thought of doing recovery with niacin and vitamins. I still don't know much about that area and it's a grey area right now.

Hi,
Metformin is for insulin dysfunction (I know because I have it). If you have sexual issues related to blood sugar or insulin, it will work. It won't work for other uses.

Abilify is less likely to cause sexual dysfunction, but doesn't repair it. Sometimes people switch to abilify from other atypical antipsychotics, because it's less likely to cause issues.

Wellbutrin can sometimes repair sexual issues caused by SSRIs, not sure about other medicines.

If you really do have clinically high prolactin, it is treated with bromocriptine or cabergoline. I know because I have a prolactinoma, which is a small benign hormone-releasing tumor that can occur in men or women. Sounds scary, but completely treatable with a tiny little pill taken 2x week. To diagnose it, it's just a blood test, sometimes followed by an MRI if prolactin is actually high.

Low testosterone can cause issues in men, too. I believe that's a treatable thing also.

You'll need more information from your doctor to confirm the reason for the issues you're having - I'm just listing some things you might want to ask about.

if you need an antipsychotic/tranquilizer, I'd recommend Abilify, personally. I have to take a high dose of it, but I do better on a lot of Abilify than I ever did on lower doses of other "atypicals." If your doc is gung ho about the injections, there's a once monthly Abilify injection, but its crazy expensive right now, and the pills are generic.

I do Orthomolecular with my psych drugs. Its high dose B3, vitamin c, vitamin e, b-complex, etc., with the psych drugs and counseling. I think I'm doing much better on the combined treatment than I would on either form of treatment alone. The psych drugs work fast and suppress certain problems, while the vitamins go to work in the brain and change your brain chemistry over the long haul, while also protecting your CNS+the rest of your body from the drugs. Something like that...
