Hello--I'm new here but am looking forward to participating here. I was diagnosed with mood disorder 15 years ago and have been on many different cocktails.
Recently off Abilify as I fell into depression (I was on 30, then dropped down to 10 due to weight gain...then went manic, then fell into depression). Added Trileptal on 8/1 (150mg 2x/day) to my Lamictal (300mg), and am having issues with my tongue rolling around in my mouth and my jaw moving around a lot, unable to settle in one place. At one point in my life I was on cocaine (many years ago), and these tongue/jaw issues remind me of being high on coke. It might also be helpful to add I'm on 30mg Adderall 2x/day for AD/HD. It's so bad right now I think I'll take an Ativan (.5mg). Other meds: Wellbutrin (200mg). Emotionally, I am unable to focus on anything, and severely lack motivation to do anything, especially at work. Adderall helps somewhat. Will this side effect of Trileptal go away? Is it an interaction with something else? Any thoughts welcome. This is really terrible to deal with. Thank you, FifteenYears |

Hmm. It sounds to me like you need to speak with your pdoc. I was on Trileptal for quite a while and didn't have any of the side-effects you've described.

I'm thinking Trileptal is just having an activating effect on me, which makes Adderall a bad idea. |

I'm glad you have the appointment tomorrow. Let me know what your pdoc says. By the way, welcome to PC

hi. adjusting to the anti-seizure drugs can sometimes be...difficult. for me, trilpetal helped with agitation, but higher doses caused concentration problems and low mood. other people report much different results, of course.
im kind of wondering if perhaps the abilify is still getting out of your system (if I recall, it has a long half-life, once you've been on it for a while), and maybe some of these problems might be related to the Abilify. I'm --not-- trying to scare you or anything, just thought I'd mention it. reactions to the anti-seizure drugs can be somewhat unpredictable. it seems that the fda has issued warnings for many anti-seizure drugs (a lot of them, such as trileptal, lamictal, neurontin, etc. are popular for psychiatric indications...). the warning raise the issue of increased mood problems, agitation, suicidal thoughts, now and then psychosis. those have never been problems for me on trileptal or lamictal, but...i thought id mention it, just in case perhaps trileptal isn't the drug for you. i hope things get better for you soon. |
