Hi guys,

I am just wondering what you all do with medication that you haven't taken cause you have stopped your medication. I was told I am stock piling cause I have at least 7 weeks worth of medication sitting in a drawer untouched. I was told if this continues then I will go to weekly dispensing instead of 2 months at a time. In case I overdose. I have never threatened nor have I ever took an overdose.

Just really wanting your opinions please thanks

Thanks Guiness187055,

That's exactly what I was going to do as they will get used. But my worker says I must get rid for my own sake

Best is to take it back to the pharmacy. They dispose it for you (the proper way)

The pharmacy will take them back. That being said, I have a small pharmacy of meds. I have them in a locked box. Just in case the doctor decides to change me back.

My town has an annual day to bring old drugs and they dispose of them safely. Maybe there is one in your area.

Benzo's and AP's are nice to have around in case of an emergency.

It was suggested to me that I could take any unused meds to a chemist for safe disposal. I agreed. (I agreed that I could, not that I would)...i know it is the right thing to do - but.... a part of me can't quite bring myself to do it.

I keep old meds, but NOT because i plan to do self harm with them. However, if you want to dispose of them, you can use the suggestions above, or simply put them down the sink, toilet, or in w/dirty cat litter if you have a cat. Its not recommended you put them in the trash because they could be recovered. If someone is checking and concerned you might mix them up, you could remove the old meds to a big ziploc or box. Then just keep your current meds all together.

hi. how do they know you have the pills? one thing I can't stand about mental health people...especially when you're stuck with a more severe label, they step in and want to control --everything--. its ridiculous.

i personally wouldn't hold on to most psych drugs, but sleeping pills, benzodiazepines, and some tranquilizers/antipsychotics can be helpful on an as-needed basis, so id personally hold on to those.

She asked me what I had done with the unused ones. I'm thinking of not putting them into the chemist but telling her I did so she doesn't moan at me
