Last night I started sodium valproate for a maninc/hypomanic episode that ive been having for the last 6 weeks. Im just wondering how long it should take to start taking effect? When should I start seeing a change in my mood to a more managable less euphoric/irritable state and start sleeping again.
Disclaimer: I feel great and reluctant to make it go away but I know from my history that things will get alot worse if I leave it untreated for much longer. |

I have been on sodium valproate before, and if I'm not completely wrong, it should start taking effect very quickly, in a couple of days actually. I'm not a doctor, but a professional told me this.
In my case, it's almost always been depressive states, when I've started medication. but I do remember one time when I was not taking my meds as supposed to and I was somewhat hyped. Then I started taking my sodium valproate again, and a friend of mine told me that within a few days I started acting calmer. And I think that's the good part of sodium valproate, because you don't have to wait for weeks until it takes effect, like on antidepressants. |
