I've been on seroquel a few months now. My dose has slowly been increased, and now I'm at 150mg at night everyday.
I OD'ed on it back in July, went to hospital and was fine, but whilst there I had a strange feeling in my chest, like I wasn't breathing properly and couldn't breath in the way I needed to. But since i've had my dose increased from 100 to 150mg I've been getting this feeling in my chest about 30-60 minutes after I've taken it. Kind of like the feeling you get at the beginning of a panic attack. It doesn't usually stop before I get to sleep. I've recently started a new job and can't see my psych or doctor for a while really so I'm not sure what to do. I've never seen this sort of thing mentioned on the side effects, but it worries me. Any one else experienced this? (I'm also on 200mg of sertraline a night btw) |

Your best option at this point is to call your dr. if you can't see your doctor in person.

please atleast call or email doctor about these symptoms. they could be dangerous. too much can cause breathing problems and you are at greater risk if it happens while you are sleeping.
i would cut it back a little until you speak to the doctor about it. |

I just started taking it. I am on the samples. Does anyone know what it is to help and what it is for? I have been SI my pretty body for 8-9 years and stuff. If the info I found right on it, it states to help BI Polar and Schizophrenia(sp)
Thanks John

I took Seroquel for several months and had chronic, severe nausea. I weighed about 125 when I began dosing. Interestingly enough, I could only eat Totino's frozen pizzas as they did not increase my nausea. My docs took me off all of my meds and the nausea immediately disappeared. As I was sure that the Seroquel was the problem, I took it one day and nothing else. Bingo. Immediately the nausea began. Naturally, the med was dropped.
As for breathing issues, I never experienced that symptom. For your good, I definitely would call your pdoc immediately and report the issue. Chances are, he/she will have you stop the med or have you come in to see him/her ASAP. Good Luck Peacemaker |

littlejohn,
Seroquel is a type of anti-psychotic that is used as a mood stabilizer as well as other off label uses. Sometimes, it is used as a sleep aid which helps some people. Hope this helps. Peacemaker |

I have tried to contact my psych since posting this, but unfortunatly he's been on long term sick. I think he's back next week. So I tried other people who support me, and havent heard anything back. It's not bothering me much, so I'll just wait until I see the psych again.
Thanks for the replies though! |

You're lucky that it's helping you get that much!! When I first went up to 100 and then 150 It helped me a lot and i got 7ish hours (from about 2 before hand). But now it seems its not working so well, I'm getting about 5 hours now.

I was on Seroquel for a very long time at 300 mgs and had to be taken off of it this summer when I had a freak experience similar to what you are describing regarding the breathing, but on a more severe level where I had to be transported to the ER. According to my pdoc, turned out that my body decided that it no longer liked Seroquel and that it was going to reject it in the form of an allergic reaction, hence the odd sensations in my chest and the trouble breathing. I agree with folks here in that you should get in touch with your doctor as soon as you can if you should experience any more of those types of episodes again.
As far as it not helping you with sleep, I'm really sorry to hear that. Hopefully, either your doctor will find the right dosage for you or find something else that will help in this regard. |

Hi,
I recently started the Seraquel, too with the samples from my Psychiatrist and then he just prescribed me a 400 mg Extended Release Dosage that isn't kept in stock in any of the pharmacies in the area. The lower dosages didn't even seem to help much to help me get much needed sleep. I am currently waiting for the new medication to come in as it had to be specially ordered. I can say, that when I first took two of the regular200 mg tablets before bed,I got really dizzy, and I really started to get the "heeby jeebies". I can't exactly put a name on it, I sort of felt really funny like I had bugs on me or something. That was the first night I took it, and about an hour afterwards, it was over. But that was the queerest feeling. ![]() |

I was also just given some samples of this. I had a brief delusional issue a few weeks ago and when I explained it all to my p-doc she gave me Seroquel.
I'm afraid to take it long term though. I don't have Schizophrenia...I may be Borderline and angry/moody but this drug just doesn't seem right to me. Anyway, 50mg and it did help with sleep. I didn't have any other issues with it other than it was hard to get up the next morning.

I am up to 100 I think. I started off at 50 then the rest was 100. As mention it is helping. I know most don't like meds and I am not addicted to meds. I feel it is the best thing for me. When I was taking meds, kept busy and talking about stuff I saw I was doing well. When I stopped and kept to my self it was not cool.

I was given Seroquel at one point, to try to stay away from benzos; unfortunately it made me excessively drowsy, I have only used it when I have a lot of trouble sleeping. I was on 100 mg, thinking of asking my doc if I can try a lower dose, as when I take the 100 mg, I can sleep for about 14 hours straight!!

Does anyone feel like they are kind of "regressing" (in learning and memory terms) because of Seroquel? I've been on it for about a week and I feel like I can't go back to school! Luckily school doesn't start until January..
I'm on 100mg. It's helped the psychotic symptoms a lot.. I barely see or hear anything ;D but I'd just wanna be one of the high school honor roll students, like i used to.

Currently, I take 50mg for sleep. When I first started this drug, I was taking 200mg--I gained 80 Lbs.

The only thing seroquel did for me was increase my weight by 40 lbs. in less than 4 weeks. Fortunately, the weight dropped when I stopped taking it.
It did make me "speedy" for the first 10 days though.
