Hello everyone,

I have just been prescribed Seroquel 100 mg today to help ease my anxiety and psychotic symptoms caused by Psychotic Depression. I am also taking Risperidone 2 mg and Remeron 15 mg. I was just wondered what I should expect to feel tomorrow, and what everyone's experience with Seroquel are.

Thank you

Seroquel at a high dosage gave me diabetes. I now take 25mg to sleep because it does not matter anymore.

I fall asleep well on it - make sure to take it at night. It makes me crave sweets and I gained a lot of weight. It’s the only antipsychotic that I have found that works for me. I take 300 mg. I could probably use 400mg, but I’m scared of weight gain. Dosage just depends on individual. Some people take 600mg. It only helps me for anxiety when I’m taking a large enough dose that feels like I’m over medicated. But maybe that’s just me. I hope the 100mg dosage is enough to help you.

I know some people and more than a small number gain weight on it like someone mentioned above. When I first took it at around 400 mg it did not make me gain weight.

That was before I had psychosis and it was known that I had dissociation. Now I'm taking it again at 300 mg but it will be increased.

The first time I took it made me sleep too much but this time it just makes me sleep well. My body feels less restless on it although I do still feel restless. I don't know how I'll feel when I'm at the dose the Psychiatrist wants me at.

I am on the generic Quetiapine.

I feel like it is going to be difficult for me to avoid weight gain, with me being on both Risperidone and Seroquel. Two antipsychotics just sounds like weight gain is inevitable. Although is the Seroquel starts to work then my Psychiatrist wants to take me off Risperidone, so I guess that's something to look forward to.

I've been reading that it really knocks people out, and many have to take it around 8:30 PM for else they won't wake up on time in the morning. My Remeron also makes me drowsy so it will definitely be interesting to see how my sleep is affected tonight.

I'm on 400 mg of it, along with 5 mg of Risperidone. So it is possible to take them together. I find it very sedating and have to take it, at about 8 pm if I'm going to wake up at anything like a normal time. I take 200 mg at night, 100 mg in the morning, and 100 mg at noon.

Through some miracle, I haven't gained weight on it, and am currently dieting and successfully losing weight, so don't assume you'll gain weight while on it.

I'm on the generic IR version.

Took it for the first time last night. Luckily I was able to wake up on time and make it to my first lecture of the day so that's good so far. Right now I kind of feel like I'm not really in my body, like I'm just kind of existing. It's hard to explain but I guess it is just because my body has to get used to the Seroquel.

First time taking it it made me super restless, to the point where it became unbearable as I was trying to fall asleep. It felt as if I was about to burst open that's how nuts it was. I'm hoping that I do not continue to have this side effect with taking Seroquel, because it really is unbearable.

Feel like a zombie for most of the day, but I knew that going into it so I guess I just have to survive until the side effects go away once my body gets used to the Seroquel.

I think I gained about 30 pounds on it. I’m not sure though because I was gaining rapidly from everything.

I think I've gained about 20 pounds so far from Risperidone so that part isn't fun.

Apparently the restlessness that I keep experiencing with my Seroquel is Akathisia. When I found the description of Akathisia it fit perfectly with what I am dealing with about any hour after taking my Seroquel. It definitely is not fun.

Try to take the seroquel earlier in the evening than you are. Maybe an hour before you want to fall asleep and while you're still moving around so it can get n your system better. I know for me, once the seroquel starts working it's lights out in a few minutes. good luck!

I only lasted one week on Seroquel. I gained 5 pounds on it. I always refuse to take meds if they make me gain weight. I refuse to be overweight (even by a pound) due to medications.

One of my friends in my DBT group has gained 74 pounds on Seroquel.
Her weight has caused her to postpone her wedding because she cannot fit into her wedding dress. I feel bad for her.

Thanks for this!

Hey fellow Pennsylvanian! I think I've gained about 20 pounds on Risperidone, and that was in about 2 weeks so it was super quickly. I just figure I can't avoid it so I have to focus on working out more and eating healthier to try and combat the weight gain from antipsychotics.

I'm sorry you're having trouble with the Seroquel. I've been told that I seem more together and that my eyes look brighter now that I'm taking it.

It has the opposite affect on me, it makes me less restless.

Medications

Lithium
Apriprizole/Abilify (Weaning off of Seroquel replacing)

I know how you feel. I gained a ton of weight from meds. I got up to 236. I had enough 2 years ago and I got off everything that made me hungry or caused weight gain. I’ve lost 80 pounds and kept it all off.

Now I refuse to be on anything new. I lasted one night on Prozac last December. I ate like 1,000 calories at dinner then I went to McDonald’s immediately after that. I was like “nope, not gonna do this.” And I didn’t take another dose. Now I am physically healthy, and mentally healthy all because of the weight loss. I am succeeding at my job and in other areas of life because my self esteem is so high compared to when I was heavier.

Basically everything I felt and was dealing with could be traced back to how unhappy I was about my weight.

So far the only problem I am having with it is the restlessness. Besides that, it has seemingly lifted me from my depression and I feel great. I feel anxious still, but otherwise my mood is pretty good. I like the Seroquel since it has helped me already, just hoping that the restlessness passes!

It helps me sleep really well and boosts my appetite. I do not take it for psychosis but I have had psychotic episodes in the past. Zyprexa made me very restless. I am not having restlessness on Seroquel thus far. It's prescribed for anxiety too but I can't take it during the day because it makes me too drowsy.

I was prescribed it for my psychotic symptoms as well as to help my anxiety. So far it has immensely helped my hallucinations as I do not have much since I have started Seroquel. My anxiety has still been pretty bad so I am not sure if it will wind up helping my anxiety, but I will just have to wait and see.

Is 600 mg the standard for Seroquel? That seems to be the number that I see most often, and of course the one causing the worst side effects. Hopefully Seroquel continues to benefit me and I can keep moving up in dosage as needed.

My Psychiatrist says that it does different things at different doses. For it to work for Dissociation and Schizoaffective Disorder it needs to go up to 600 mg.
