Hello.I've been taking Cymbalta 60mg /day maybe nearly 10 years.
I have a plan for moving but,I'm zero motivated now,(so I didn't even check here..)

Today I asked Doctor something new,at least new here.we came up with Effexor.(at least it's new here)

I'm on switching phase,now 37.5mg Effexor SR /day and 30mg /Cymbalta /day.
I'll be on this doze on one month,(doctor wanted to this phase shorter, but This month is busy for me)

Only one dose later,no side effect, maybe even motivated (mind effect?).BUT I've read lots lots of scary review on western website.

Meds works different people by people,I know,But,it this really That negative one?

Western opinion would help me! Thanks!

I've been on Effexor since 1999, and it's worked well for me. I'm on a really high dose though 375 mg. normal therapeutic dose is 225 mg. I don't have any side effects from it. When I started it, I had some nausea and headaches, but they went away in a couple of weeks.

The only real negative I know of with Effexor, is it can be extremely hard to come off of, it's got a really bad discontinuation syndrome profile, but since I plan to be on it for a while, I'm not too worried about that.

I've been on it for awhile too, and it's worked well. I haven't had any side effects that I've noticed. But as splitimage mentioned, it's hard to come off of. If you need to stop taking it, you need to come off of it very slowly. Also, don't skip pills. When I've skipped two in a row or more I've gotten sick...and not just depressed sick. I felt horrible, but then within an hour of taking another pill I felt fine.
Thanks for this!

I've taken Effexor xr for almost 20 yrs. I take an unheard amount of 600 mg. I have no side effects and it has helped tremendously. I have heard that that withdrawal is quite awful so I don't look forward to it, but so far so good.

Good luck to you.
Thanks for this!

Thanks, splitimage.I'm ok with on medication forever because I have always been on something since I was diagnosed..
Here we have Effexor only for 2 years,so we don't have enough information.
Maybe doctor himself didn't know about really bad discontinuation syndrome,I'm not sure.

It looks like,2 days on Effexor,It's working for me.I'm motivated and calm, also, there was side effect.I took first dose last night, and I couldn't sleep enough even I'm on sleep meds.
Maybe My Effexor dose will be smaller one.(I've heard when people took less than 75mg,It's common to be sleepy.I wasn't)

I took second dose this morning..(too fast?)and I feel it's wearing off.a bit scary.but interesting SNRI.(I'm a curious lab-rat)
Thanks for let me know your experience! Hmm..maybe people had less side effect is good for Effexor?(guessing)

Thanks,maybeblue.

Now only thing I scared of is,that withdrawal.I live alone and sometimes not physically fine to go to p-doctor and get medication.I hope he will consider it and let me have extra for those days.I downloaded Medicine Reminder not to skip the pill!(as I also have ADHD)

(I forgot to quote..sorry)

Thank you,BirdFeeder.

600mg is surprising amount..(We will not prescribed such a huge amount.maybe because we are shorter?Max amount is always smaller than in U.S)
What encouraged me is,you all have so positive experience.and for me,so far so good.(even It's only 2 days)

Thanks to everyone, and ,hoping it works well for me in long terms!

hi. effexor works nicely for a lot of people. tapering can be rough, of course. dosing seems to vary wildly, which is probably a good thing, since your doctor can work with you to find a good dose. if you take stimulants as well, just be careful of the dose and cautious about potential serotonin syndrome (Not common, but can happen).

back when i was on ritalin, a shrink told me that stimulants help "boost" antidepressants and that antidepressants help reduce the crash/come down effect from stimulants. i dont know if that's legit, or just stuff they tell patients, lol...but i thought id share.

try not to worry too much.
Thanks for this!

I've been on Effexor XR for a few years. They have def helped me. I've been able to go to school, work and other normal life activities for a 20 year old. Like you said everyone is different for meds so I would voice any concerns you have with your doctor about it.
Thanks for this!

Hi,Thanks stii_crazy.Yes,I’m also on stimulant.
Concerta 72mg/d and Pemolin (still available here)30mg/d to giving me kick on a@@.
I have to go dentist nearby p-doc today.so I got appointment to increase dose today.
I experienced racing heart yesterday..turned out,I always have racing heart and anxiety when I didn’t sleep enough.(enough means 10-12 hours to me)but I didn’t felt anxiety yesterday,So,I didn’t realized.after a short nap,It was fine.

Edit:.Yes.I have a tendency to worry too much, but it looks disappeard after Effexor.

Thanks Ken,It look like ,on 4th days Effexor,it’s helping me a lot.
As I’m older lady,I have to watch hypertension..

I just went to my p-doc,who says “it’s not that scary “about withdrawal.
saying “maybe they’re not taking XR?”Meh.But he’s one of not so many doctors who can prescribe Concerta to adult.AND he gave me prescription of 3weeks of 75mg caps Effexor XR.=I can keep 3 week amount of 37.5mg for “Just in case”.

Since adding Effexor my motivation improved once we hit 112.5 mg daily. Then stress worsened, and yesterday my Psych. increased my dosage to 150 mg. We will see.

I do find it hard getting started in the mornings. Just can't shake the morning fog. Been getting up too early, but haven't been taking my trazodone.

Hi PerryJoeJimBob.
I'm still on 75mg.feel less motivated than before.(or,just procrastinating huge unclutter tomorrow.I'm scared.really..)

For me it's hard to get up early too.but better than without effexor.Maybe my sleep meds(Flunitrazepam (legal here)and pentobarbital(sometimes prescribed here)are working too much.I can get good sleep with them, but hard to get up..

Hoping your 150mg dosage works well.mine will be a little bit more one week later.

Report on Effexor XR 150mg.and BPmed (Combined one, japanese name,Calcium channel blockers and Angiotensin receptor blockers combined)
I had headache before BP med,and had BP 150/110 at P-doc,so I asked BPmed temporally from P-doc and searching good doctor for that area.
Headache is gone,(and I wanted to increase Effexor to 150 despite P-doc's rectant)
And So far so good.I bought BP monitor at home.

I asked My P-Doc to give my 150mg with 1 75mg cap and 2-37.5 mg caps,as I can only go to see P-doc once in a month.and 150mg is working good so far.

I’m on 375 and have been off and on since I was 14 and let’s jsut say that’s more than half my life. I only get the normal withdrawel symptoms and none of the weirdly Effexor associated ones.

It seems like you are having a good experience so far. I have just switched from Zoloft 250mg to Effexor xr 225mg. It's only been a couple of days but I feel pretty good today. I'm cautiously optimistic.
