The psychiatrist told me to take Gabapentin100 mgs aka Neurontin for sleep. Anyone use this drug for insomnia?
Background Prescribed Gabapentin for severe athlete's foot that caused nerve pain. The pain was relieved by an Rx lotion. So no need to take the med
Now that the dr. took me off Celexa40 mgs for sleep and reduced Celexa to 20mgs what do you think of his saying I can take Gabapentin. Most common side effects?

I took it for anxiety. It made me awful hungry an hour or two after I took it. I was getting up from bed to start cooking at midnight. Not worth it to me. I didn't find it that great for anxiety either.

I take it for social anxiety and it works great. I take 600mgs though. For sleep I have taken it but with xanax added to it. Gabapentin by itself is not that great for sleep. JMHO

I love gabapentin

I take 1000 mg per day, most of it in the evening. I use it for anxiety.

I quit taking the Seroquel because I’m able to sleep with the gabapentin
. Seroquel is just a prn now for sleep.

No side effects for 100mg.

On 600 I have to watch my step because it gives me a buzz.

On 100mg, I will sleep for two days.
I am very sensitive to it.
Cannot take it.

it was OK for me. i think it causes about as much cognitive weirdness as Klonopin, but I was more aware of it (the Klonopin-induced stupidity kinda sneaks up on me). taken only as needed for sleep, 300-600mgs usually gets the job done, but insomnia is not a constant problem for me.

i hope it works OK for you.

I was prescribed Gabapentin for Periodic Limb Movement (PLM). I was having a lot of trouble sleeping, had a sleep study done, was diagnosed with PLM, and put on Gabapentin.

It did help me fall asleep but I continued waking up all hours of the night, so it wasn’t worth it. It also increased my appetite A LOT-to the point where I gained a lot of weight. I really regret taking it but it may work differently for you. I would suggest at least trying it to see if it is successful.
