If you stopped cold turkey (not recommended), it would take 5-6 days for the drug to be cleared from your system. Gradual tapering is generally recommended, though, to minimize withdrawal symptoms.
Withdrawal effects can generally be separated into two groups, acute and delayed. Acute effects are those associated with the absence of exposure to the drug to which your body has been accustomed. To understand the delayed effects, you have to think about the delay it takes when you're first taking the drug before you can expect to feel the benefits. The drug is already there, doing its transporter and receptor blocking, but the effect is not immediate. There must be some regulatory effects that take time to appear. Well, the reverse is also true. To readjust during withdrawal, will also take some time. By undergoing a dose tapering process, your body has a better chance of initiating the delayed readjustments before the drug is completely gone. Most people find it's better that way. Gentler. Good luck. Lar |

It took me 3 weeks to get over it.
Looking back it wasn't too bad. I'll take it again if I need it but not long term. The brain zaps and slow reactions were really a proble. |

Also, if you haven't solved your depression through therapy or a changed pattern of life events, you may feel depressed again when the drug is gone. So beware of that and be prepared that you may have more work ahead of you to deal with depression. This may feel like a withdrawal symptom, but it's not, just a return to how things are for you right now. Sometimes we have to taper our meds or stop them to take a peek into ourselves to see if we are truly still depressed or not. Tapering is more effective as our biochemical regulatory mechanisms have a chance to adjust instead of swinging too far in one direction once the meds are withdrawn. I'm glad you are checking and hope you are OK now. Good luck.
