I’ve been on geodon for 11 years. It’s worked out great and I can see a difference and I’ve had basically no side effects and stuff.
This past month maybe, My heart has been racing at night. Sometimes it’s not all that fast and sometimes it is. Last week I woke up at 1-2 in the morning and my heart was beating so fast that my chest hurt. It was painful. I know geodon can do to your heart what lithium can do to your kidneys. Is this a common issue? Also the longer your on geodon are the risks higher of developing heart issues? I know it’s rare for lithium to cause issues if you’ve been on it less then 20 years. But it only took 7 years for me to get kidney damage from it. Does anyone have any comments or suggestions? |

Sorry I do not have professional knowledge of how it affects your heart. You might consider contacting a medical professional or your pharmacist.

I think you should see a doctor ASAP. It could be an “just” an anxiety attack or it could be heart issues. That’s not something to ponder about. That is something that needs immediate attention.

I did see my doctor. She’s says my heart rate is high. I’ve seen her since and she hasn’t mentioned it.

People on Geodon should have an EKG. Especially if taken with other meds. It's just my personal experience but this one is the worst offender for prolonged QT.

I kinda lose track of this stuff. I haven’t had an EKG in a few years. I’m weird with this kind of stuff. I have the mindset that everything is anxiety and it’s not real, so I don’t have to follow up. Lately though stuff hasn’t been anxiety or all in my head. So who knows. But yeah I think it’s like every 6 months or something with the EKG.

Yes i was just going to suggest ask. Ask your primary or psychiatrist whoever to get you set up with a cardiologist. Just to be on the safe side. I've done it in the past too when I had panic attacks and I didn't' know what they were my heart was normal, but was given beta blockers to help with anxiety. It's better to play it safe especially with heart issues...just a regular check-up shouldn't hurt. I'm not doubting your doctors work, but whenever my doctors have heart of heart pain or stuff like that EKG was their first reaction, and eventually a regular basic visit with a cardiologist.. Good luck! |
