Does anyone take an antidepressant that actually works for them? I have tried almost all of them and they give me problems with my anxiety disorders. Sometimes make me feel all wound up, too. I have taken prozac, effexor, lexapro, paxil, celexa, imipramine, zoloft and all gave me side effects I could not stand. I will see my psyche dr. later this month. Are there any left I have not tried? Oh yeah, I tried wellbutrin too and it made me very nervous. I may have to go the mood stabilizer route. Tried two of those and did not have good results (lamactil, topamax).
Any recommendations?

I take Trielptal as a mood stabilizer, paxil and wellbutrin. and some stuff for anxiety. Those help my mood a lot, it's more stable than it's ever been in years. It's different for everyone though

wellbutrin was good for me. celexa was good while agitated. after 6 months...too placid, too tranquilized. each person, each situation, is different.

I use Emsam, which is an MAOI. It works really well for me and I'm bipolar so that's a hard thing to find. There are food and drug restrictions at certain doses but it is easy to get used to those. When nothing else works MAOIs are great and Emsam is a patch which makes it less difficult with restrictions since it is not digested with foods so it is the easiest MAOI as far as I am concerned.

Like Guiness said there is no one best antidepressant. Pristiq is a newish one and there are others as well. Pristiq wasn't generic last I checked but my insurance covered it anyway since they said it was inexpensive enough. You've still got options, it's just a matter of trial and error.
Thanks for this!

I have not tried any of the MAOIs yet. None of the SSRIs work for me. Glad you found something that has worked well for you. I will take a MAOI if it will work for me. I've recently been food restricted somewhat and a few more things won't matter. Thank you.

I know there is no one best. Maybe the title of this thread wasn't a good one..lol. I just meant what is the best everyone has tried. Thank you. I have not taken Pristiq. That's another one to consider for me.

I will look into Trielptal. I've tried almost everything so I'll try it and maybe it will help. I'm very down now. Only on risperdal at a low dose and have no energy.

Yes, I'm aware we are all different and am very sure there is no perfect ad. Glad that works well for you!

As others have said, there's no such thing. I've had luck with most of the meds except Prozac (allergic reaction — hives). I just haven't been able to tolerate the side effects and had to stop. That said, the only ones that've been helpful and relatively side effect free are Venlafaxine XR, Duloxetine XL, and Wellbutrin XL
