I have been on Olanzapine/Zyprexa for about a year and my skin has become horrible. I have new acne coming in everyday...Could it be caused by this med? Has anyone experienced this? Olanzapine/Zyprexa=acne?

Did your skin become that way just now or when you started Zyprexa?

Its actually gotten worse. Olanzapine/Zyprexa=acne? And no matter what I use on my face, it just makes it even worse...I'm waiting for my doctor to put me on another, stronger birth control for it...*sigh*.

How often do you wash your face? what do you use? do you live in a seasonal climate (4 seasons), dry or humid area? have you changed anything in your diet? All these things can cause acne. If I was my face w/ face soap every day my skin is a wreck by the end of the week. I live in Ohio and I notice in the summer I get more white heads and in the winter I am queen of black heads. Also now that I only eat meat about 1 a month my skin is better and taking fish oil and vitamin E has helped my zits heal faster. If you are over cleansing that can also mess your skin up b/c it disrupts the sebaceous glands sebum out put and in turn the acid mantle.

I'm using Spectrogel (cleanser) at the moment. I live in Canada, it can get quite dry in the winter. I feel like I've tried everything on my skin...Nothing is helping. I can't wait to start a stronger birth control...It worked for me years ago.

I used Topamax and it gave me a lot of new acne zits.
I use Colgate regular toothpaste at the begining. Or try
tea tree oil. I have always had acne since the age of 14, so I really know how you are feeling. I have a lot of scarring,
which makes me feel yucky.
I have also tried lots of med's for this acne. I also use retina-micro gel, benacyclin and finecea as needed.

My acne has cleared up, Thank God.
I started taking B-complex 150 mg and flax oil with the omega'3 capsules.

Hope you get this under control. Whatever you decide do
some research if you take Accutane. Side effects are
depression, damage to unborn children during pregnancy.

Take care,
Sassy

I took flaxseed oil and it didn't do anything...I think my skin problem is hormonal, because when I was on Diane 35 (birth control) my skin was crystal clear. I'm taking Alesse right now...It sucks.lol.

I'm sorry to hear that happened to your skin! Olanzapine actually works great for me...I have schizophrenia and I go nuts when I forget to take it. I know it messes up your hormones because when I first took it in the hospital, my breasts were killing me.

I'm going to try a new birth control, and if that doesn't work, I'll try and get my psych to change my antipsychotic.

Oh by the way, I talked to my psych and family doctor about acne from Olanzapine, and they both said it would not cause that...WTF. I hate them being wrong about things. Olanzapine/Zyprexa=acne?

I was on zyprexa for a very short time . Within a week of starting it my skin became horrible , I also gained wait like a fattened pig . 40lbs in 2 months . My doc took me off it and I never had a problem since .
I would give your doc a call , nothing like a bad case of acne to keep you depressed . Maybe there is a different otion for you.
Take care ,
Sher

my doc told me about the acne . look into it yourself . I am not sure if it is listed as one of the side effects or not .
