Has anyone had this mixture? I take a total of 1200mg a day of lithium carbonate and was just started on lamictal twice a day at 25 mg a day. What results have you seen? Any other considerations or special instructions or stuff I have to worry about? Also is 1200 of lithium considered high? Thanks for ur help. -Danielle

Hi, Danielle...
I take 1350mg of lithium and 400mg Lamictal per day... I also take 400 mg Seroquel at bedtime. I've been taking this "cocktail" with small variations for a couple of years now. I think that it has been reasonably effective in controlling my symptoms. It's not perfect, but it keeps me out of the hospital (mostly) lol. I haven't had any serious side effects except some weight gain (I want to eat everything in sight!) All in all I would have to say that I'm pretty happy with my regimen, though I should add that I think the Seroquel was AT LEAST as effective as the other drugs for me. It is really trial and error for everyone, though...what works for me may not be good for you. i wish you the best in your treatment, though. DJ PS... I forgot to add that your lithium dosage is determined strictly by your blood level... 1200 seems to be pretty average, but I know people who have taken as much as 2000 daily...it just depends! DJ

I used to take the two together: 150 mg Lamictal and 600 mg Lithium. It worked well for me with no intolerable side effects. I recently dropped the Lamictal since my pdoc and I wondered if maybe it was redundant for me when the Lithium had such a positive response. Right now, I'm not sure if that was such a good idea, since I'm falling back into depression.
Good luck! gg

I'll find out if that works for me to. I saw my pdoc the other day and he's taking me off lithium and putting me on the lamictal, increasing and decreasing slowly. He said it actually works better; do u find that to be true?

I have been on lithium for over a year now, 1500mg was the highest I had to lower the dose to 900mg because I had the shakes (tremors)more then I could handle. My Pdoc added Lamictal and we are slowly adding our way up 300mg (I am at 225mg) He thinks 300mg may work. So far so good, I still have my 'manic friend' haunting me but not as bad as before. I am also on 600mg of seroquel. And Xanax, provigil, ativan and klonopin, as needed. My cabinet looks like a drug store! Only time will tell if THIS coctail will be the one. Good luck, I have heard lots of people do well with both the lithium and the lamictal.
