So I noticed something.

I take Trazodone 50 mg for sleep. I have the option to take one or two pills depending what I need for sleep. I've been taking one which equals 50 mg.

Everything was fine. It was helping with sleep.

But yesterday and today I've started having weird nightmares. Nightmares so disturbing and scary for me that I'm afraid to sleep.

So anyway, I was confused because I usually don't have nightmares that often.

I searched Google for Trazodone weird dreams and apparently, a lot of people have reported having weird dreams and disturbing nightmares while on this med.

Has anyone else experienced weird nightmares on Trazodone?

I'm definitely telling my psychiatrist soon that I don't want to take it anymore. Not if it's causing this.

I'm already a ball of anxiety everyday. I don't need to be afraid to sleep too.

I have taken it for years with no I'll effects. I have taken other antidepressants that caused weird sleep or other things.

Do tell your doc your are not tolerating it well.

I hope you find relief soon.

Have you tried 100 mg? I would before stopping. I've found the extra dose makes you sleep deeper.

Have you tried 100 mg? I would before stopping. I've found the extra dose makes you sleep deeper.

I've tried the 100 mg. That is actually the dose I tried first. But it made me too sedated when I would wake up. Also the pills were too large on that dose even if I cut them in half. So I'd have trouble swallowing them.

So that's why my psychiatrist switched me to the 50 mg dose. Which has tinier pills.

Definitely telling my psychiatrist I don't want to take it anymore.

I suggest talking to your pdoc about these issues. I did take Trazodone at 50mg for a few months and it helped my insomnia but it did give me a hangover effect. It was originally used as a basic antidepressant and than was started as off label for sleep:

My pdoc did give me the option to take two 50 mg pills or just take one 50 mg pill.

I might give the 100 mg a try again. It did help me sleep better. Even though it was sedating when I woke up.

I haven't had nightmares anymore. So it might of just been a bit of coincidence.

Before anyone says, no I didn't see or read anything scary before I had the nightmares.

The nightmares were about completely random things. That really didn't make sense.

I take both seroquel and trazodone. I’ve been on Trazodone for a year and have very lucid dreams. Don’t have nightmares all the time though. Was having the dreams a lot before the Trazodone so it may not be the cause for me. I sleep through the night, so that’s the trade off for me I guess.

This is a fairly old thread, but in case someone reads it I'll add my experience with Trazadone.

My pdoc prescribed Traz. for sleep. I had taken it for about a week, then I took the same (recommended) dose one night and had a horrible, very frightening reaction. I felt like I had overdosed. Flashing lights with my eyes closed, humming noises, a strong sensation that I was going to black out. I was fighting to retain consciousness. The experience took about 15 minutes to pass. I know that most people do well with Trazadone, but maybe some don't. I will never touch the stuff again.
