Does anyone have experience with xanax xr and what was that experience. I just feel tired, but it doesn't seem to relieve my anxiety much

I don't take xr, just plain xanax. I have to say that it helps with my severe anxiety quickly. Like when I am in the middle of a total freak out anxiety attack; it usually cools it down to a somewhat non-hysterical level. I take xanax everyday and I honestly don't know what I would do if I didn't have it.

How long have to been taking it? I know it took me a while for it really to do anything.

Oh ya, and its really short acting, (at least the non-xr is), so after a few hours, my anxiety level is back shooting up...its a cycle. I end up taking more and more. But the alternative isn't worth it.

Is there a specific reason you are taking rx rather than just the regular "as needed" dosage? Maybe that would be better and make you not as sleepy.

I was taking the regular, but then seemed to be feeling like I needed it more so thought the xr might be better, but so far it has not.

I've been on Xanax XR since late summer of 2007. I was a complete disaster without it. I have a rather bad case of permanent PTSD, and my ability to cope with myself is marginal at best. Before the Xanax, I was using some fairly extreme coping methods which my pdoc decided were unhealthy..... mostly extreme physical exertion. I was in panic mode most of the time.

Now, I have a much better handle on my stress levels.

One might wonder if the meds are really doing anything or if I have become "addicted." Over Christmas, I had a chance to find that out. My prescriptions got all messed up, and I was off the Xanax for 5 days. After a couple days of detox, I was back to extreme panic mode. The Xanax XR keeps me level.

So I guess it really depends on what your situation is and how you cope with certain meds in general. I'm on a low doseage... 0.5mg 2x daily.

why would you want an extended release xanax? Does that mean it takes longer to activate or does that mean it lasts longer?

It seems a little bit of both. I'm not taking it anymore. I"m back on the regular, but it doesn't seem to be working for me anymore either. I'm so frustrated.
