Not really a question, but more of an observation. I can see why people get addicted to vicodin. I have only been taking it for a little over a week. I have half a pill left and I am trying not to take it tonight. I LOVE the stuff....that is so dangerous because my whole family has issues with drugs of some shape or form.
I love the way it sort of clears my mind and makes me feel high.
I know that is really bad and that is why I am so glad I don't have to take it any more after this half that's left.

I don't like to be prescribed vicidin, because the danger of getting addicted. For medical reason I was on it for 3 months straight needless to say I was hooked on it, I had an easy time getting off of it though. I hope you are feeling better.

A narcotic addition is tuff. Especially if your addiction drives you to start abusing the hospital system. You do not want to be labeled as a drug seeker.

Yeah, I am feeling a bit better from the car accident and am glad that I am just about out of Vicodin and Cyclobenzaprine cuz the two together make me sleep a lot.
I would hate to be labeled a drug seeker, that would be awful for me.

Yep I love loved vicodin too. Know of the meds. I take for my mental heath made me feel even close to what vicondin did . But sadly it doesn't last and in the long run made things much much worst then they were.

If you take a pill and it makes you happy it usually not good for you I had to learn that the hard way.

Yeah, every time a doctor asks me "does it hurt?" I am tempted to scream out that it is the worse pain of my life in the hopes I might get pain meds.

Dang those pills. They do feel good, but eventually bring nothing but trouble. I have to use great caution around anything that makes me feel good.

Yeah, I totally get that. I completely understand that if it makes me feel good then it sure isn't good for me! Especially HOW good it made me feel!

I have had to sign a pain managment contract, and have been on Vicoden quit a while

I try not to take it every day and not over 3 days consecutive, though I have it avalible,I feel comfortable saying, I have been lucky enough to be able to control any addiction to it

I do see how people can be addicted to it though, but after taking it awhile it really don't affect you to much anymore

I try to remind myself that Narcotic pain medication is just a controlled, clean dose of Heroine, Opium or Cocaine.

As such I treat it just like any addictive substance.

If I had Chronic Pain I would be considering nerve blocking or hypnotherapy before I was on a steady set of narcotics.

That is a great idea. I always thought that if it's a prescription then it must be ok because the doctors are supposed to know what is best.

I know that they can be manipulated and that really sucks!

Hypnotherapy scares me.....maybe I will try it if I could learn more about it so I wasn't so scared..IDK

I am just glad that I don't have any more of those Vicodin left!!!

onlymedid,

Can I ask why Hypnotherapy scares you? Are there questions I can answer for you to make you feel more comfortable?

I was doing hypnotherapy but changed therapists. I'm not sure if we moved from guided imagery to actual hypnotherapy but I what we were doing was very relaxing and I was always aware. During it, it felt very relaxed and interacting with the psychologist normally. Afterwards I felt sooo good, peaceful, very light and it stayed with me longer and longer. It really felt so good. I think if you're interested, give it a try. Remember you are completely in control.

As for Vicodin.. in spite of a history of drug use, I dislike Vicodin so much that I tell the doctors I have adverse reactions to it so they won't prescribe it. It makes me feel like I can't get a deep breath and it gives me horrendous nightmares.

That's such an interesting statement. I tend to agree, almost like I have some sort of deep-rooted puritanical tendency--"feeling good is bad and sinful." I think a lot of people take psychoactive drugs because they do want to feel less unhappy, depressed, etc. Does that make those drugs not good for you? (trippinmickey, I'm not challenging your statement, just throwing out thoughts, because it is a very interesting question to me.) Last year I was prescribed buspirone, which made me feel so good for the first couple of months. It had all these great effects that I hadn't been warned about, although it didn't really address the problem for which it was prescribed (anxiety). I just enjoyed it thoroughly. I didn't tell my doctor about any of these side effects or mention anything to my therapist. I was afraid they might say, "hey, you're not supposed to feel good, stop taking those things!" After a couple of months, my body adapted to the drug and I no longer got these benefits. Vicodin addiction So I stopped taking them. I miss those days....

Vicodin--it has been a lifesaver to me for sporadic use for intense pain. I used to carry it everywhere in my purse "just in case." Now my health problem is fixed so I no longer need it. I never felt like I was tempted to become addicted. I think my brain biochemistry is not prone to classical addiction. It is good to know if that is the case for yourself or not, so you can be very vigilant against addiction if need be.

Sure Rick, you can ask....I am scared because there is a lot of my past that I don't remember and I am afraid of WHAT I might remember. What I DO remember was absolutely horrible and I have so much anxiety about it that it is already life consuming. I just don't want to remember anything worse than what I already do.

The other thing is that I might feel vulnerable and out of control....I have to be in control of EVERYTHING and if I am not then I don't deal very well. For an example I have DID, but if any of my alters try to come out to the front I prohibit it because I have to know what is going on all the time.

There were many times in my past where I would "black out" and the fears of what I may have done or said terrify me today.

I hope that helps you to see why it scares me so much. It may be that I am just ignorant to hypnotherapy. I admit there is not a lot I know about it, but from what I hear....some people get things planted in their minds..is that true? Has that happened? Vicodin addiction

IDK, You can school me on the truths Vicodin addiction...I am willing to listen if you are willing to share.

Please don't ever let this drug get a hold of you. I had a chronic pain problem, and I did actually need these drugs, then eventually stronger ones like oxyconode then oxycontin. Like you even though I needed them, I liked them A LOT. I had a nerve block that releived my problem, but I could not give up my drugs. I continued to get them from my pain doc, and I struggled for over two years with this addiction. It only gets worse and then it begins to take more and more to get that same feeling. I am now almost 90 days clean and I went through rehab and regularlly go to NA meetings. I was only self medicating myself. Now I am able to deal with my mental health problems. (I have ADHD and bipolar) I am being medicated for both and just waiting for the effects to kick in.

But please, please don't ever let this go any further. I would stay away from pain meds all together unless you really, really need them. If you have any tendency towards addiction, it is very easy to get hooked on these. I never thought it would happen to me. I went through a lot with this and almost lost my husband and I am still working on "damage control". I would not wish this on anyone.

Just a little advice from someone whose been there. I don't want you to go through what I did. Then than "drug addict" label follows you everywhere!!

onlymedid,

I am always willing to answer questions and "school" anyone....

Please follow this link to a Hypnotherapy thread from last year. It should answer alot of your questions. It might even add some questions, and that is fine. Feel free to post your questions on the hypnotherapy thread for all to read and learn.

Thanks,
Rick

Thanks Pgolg for that. I know it is hard to talk about addiction the way that you have....thank you for being so honest.

Rick, thank you for that link. I will look at it and will post if I have questions.
