Mt 14 yo has been prescribed 1200mg of Lithium...does that seem odd to anyone? I was told a while back that 600mg was all a person should take?

It depends....has the doc checked the lithium level in his blood? That is what is important, not necessarily the dosage. Did he just start taking lithium at 1200mg or is this an increase of a previous dose?

I take 1125 mg of Lithium. The dose does not matter, but the blood lithium level matters. Most p-docs try and keep blood levels below 1.2. My blood lithium level is 1.0.

The p-doc chooses the dose based on weight, height, gender, etc. The blood levels should be checked frequently in the beginning, like weekly or every other week. Later, every 6 months is fine.

If the blood lithium levels get too high, you can get lithium toxicity. Symptoms include passing out, feeling nasuea, dizzy, headaches, stomaches and tiredness. Watch for these.
