I have been curious for a while as to why I have side effects to almost every medicine I have used. I didn't know the side effect to the med before it happened so I didn't think it & it happened.

examples:
As a child, my mom gave me asprin & I got sick to my stomach every time.

Codine would cause me to go off in an awful mood & jump on those around me.

I was given Benedryl when bedydine was applied to my skin under my cast which caused it to blister. Later that night, I woke up with my throat swollen closed & had a very hard time breathing.

Penycillan now causes me a rash after using it as a child.

Antidepressants didn't help the depression AT ALL, but caused side effects that I couldn't handle. I ended up with the following side effects: dry mouth, loss of appetite, weight loss, nausea (causing EDNOS (anorexia)), migraines (that ended up being 24/7), pounding heart, dizziness & passing out, joint pain & stiffness (so bad I couldn't move), insomnia, & shakey hands...to name a few.

During that time, I was prescribed the following antidepressants: Paxil, Imipramine, Prozac, Zoloft, amitriptyline, nortriptyline, Wellbutrin, Tranzene, Serzone, Luvox, Effexor, Parnate, Nardil, Remeron, Pamelor, Trazodone, Ludiomil, Resperidone, Depakote, Tregretol, Neurontin, Lithium, Desipramine, Sinequane, Elavil, Asendin, Vivactil, Serax, Thorazine, Seroquel, Celexa, Lexapro, Serentil, Navane, Resperdol, Sinequan, Ludiomil, Desyrel, & maybe more.

I was very suicidal & overdosed on many of the drugs like Serax, Valium, Librium, Prozac, Imiprimine, Wellbutrin, Serzone, tylenol, a combination taken upon discharge from the closed unit that caused me to pass out, go into a coma & end up on a breathing machine.

All these stupid things I did (which didn't seem stupid at the time) make me wonder if they caused the migraine with brain leisons to become a permanent part of my head (24/7) years after it was stopped?

Later, I ended up with a Parkinson's type of symptoms. I wondered if it was a new disease I was going to have to deal with, but it turned out to be a reaction to the compazine I was taking for my migraines & thorazine for my anxiety. Once they were removed, it took about a month to get it all out of my system.

Unfortunately, every migraine med I took, caused heart palpatations which couldn't be tolerated.

Flovent causes me to lose potassium, & at the same time, I was put on Foradil to control my asthma while in the hospital, & ended up losing my voice (it was initially thought to be part of my bronchitis ). When I could only whisper with absolutely no voice it was decided to be a reaction to the med which took days to clear up.

I am now so afraid to put meds into my body that I stopped all my meds. Luckily, my blood tests show no need for the meds I was on. My Psychiatrist wants me to go onto a med for my weight loss but I just can't get myself to do it no matter how much it might help.

Has anyone else had this kind of extreme medicine reactions? I wonder what goes on in my body to cause these extreme reactions?

How strange can I get?

I too tend to get side effects with medicine (although they are much less severe then yours). It seems that everyside effect possible from every medicine I get. I cannot take allergy medicine because they knock me out.
I wish that I had some advice for you, just wanted to let you know that I did read your post.

Hey eskielover...you are not alone here. I am quite allergic and have to print out a new "list" of medicines that are allergic to me... nearly four times a year. It's an 8 1/2 x 11 soon to go 14" long and typed... so I know what it is to be allergic!

Some of us are sensitives. Many of my generic medicine allergies are due to the filler they use (I'm allergic to the fillers.) The active drug has to be exact as a Brand but they can and do use fillers... and different ones... if you can find a compounding pharmacis he/she might help you see if there is a trend to some of your reactions... fillers, drug co. etc

I take the allergy sheet with me in my wallet because, like you, I too am allergic to things they give other ppl to keep them alive.

...keep them alive... hmmm well I'm reeling in a pain flare right now, partially due to a severe reaction to Gabitril... and not interested in anyone keeping me alive...

hope to discuss this more in future with you :P
