I came down with bronchitis in early August. Started to get better in Sept. when I was coughing only a few days a week, instead of every day. Then in October, I my cough got a lot worse, and started getting more sick (headache, fever, chest pain, etc.). It turned out that with my asthma, I couldn't cough all the bad stuff out, so now the bad stuff made a home in my lungs and got it infected.

My question is: would the celexa/seroquel (their 'calming' affect) stop me from coughing enough to get rid of the bad stuff?

My cough has been over 2 months, and I can't seem to kick it. I also cant get a flu shot until I'm all better. I need answers and suggestions please. Thanks.

Hi ss... I'm not sure of your question... because to me, being able to cough the bad stuff out is a benefit... if you are taking a cough suppressant , then yeah, it could work against you.

I have terrible allergies to medications (my latest being Gabitril) and have had many serious sinus and chest infections, and yes, bronchitus all caused by the allergic reaction to the medicine...

I would tell my MD.. and get a shot to boost a medicine like Levaquin to cut through the infection.

Thanks, sky. I guess the psych meds I'm taking might depress my breathing and suppresses my coughing (am I using the right words?), especially when I'm sleeping. As a result, I got an infection. My question is is what I think true?

Oh my, I'm sorry you had such a bad allergic reaction to meds. Are you better now?

I'm going to take a big leap and try to answer this. LOL. I don't know if it would depress your breathing or suppress your cough. I do know of something that would help IF you have a person who can do it for you. My nephew kept really bad pneumonia caused from asthma all the time. We could cup our hands and smack him on the back. Not real hard, just all over....repeatedly. Small cupping of hands, not fingertips jamming. It will help loosen up the stuff in the lungs and is easier to cough up. I don't know about your living situation, but perhaps you have someone who could do this for you?

At one time we had a little blue suction cup looking thing his doctor gave him to use on the back but said the slight cupping of your hand hitting the back would do the same thing. If you need more explanation, let me know.

BTW: Are you receiving antibiotics under a physician's care? IF not you really should, it can progress to pneumonia if it hasnt already.

Thanks, sounds like a good idea. I've heard of smacking the back, but thought it was for some other lung disease. Unfortunately, nobody can smack me - when I cough. Would smacking at times other than during coughing help? My nephews and niece would love to do that.

I am on antibiotics cuz it has already turned into pneumonia .

Yes, we would just do it all the time. If my nephew (who at the time was being treated for cystic fibrosis) started to wheeze or anything we'd smack his back. not hard, ya know...but it would be a good job for the niece and nephews! Make it a game. And it does help, even my father-in-law would have people smack his back for 10 minutes or so everyday and it helped him keep his lungs cleared.

DH takes Seroquel and according to his T, coughing can be a side effect. He coughs all the time now. Drives me nuts, but its better than him with no meds.

Thanks for the info. Didn't know seroquel makes people cough. I'm wondering though - I haven't started coughing until a couple of months ago, and I've been on seroquel since last year. Could it be a combo of everything - asthma, pneumonia, seroquel?
