I was prescribed Provigil as an adjunct treatment with Effexor for my depression and PTSD. So, I was wondering if this is common (I don't suffer from a sleep disorder) and if anybody else has had good experiences with this combination.

I take Provigil in addition to Effexor XR,Prozac, and Risperdal. I loved it to begin with but as with most meds I find that after awhile they peter out on me as this one is. When it does work it works wonderful and I have energy,my mood is up and I actually function on a somewhat normal level. When it doesn't work I quit functioning and zonk out for hours at a time. I do plan on talking to my pdoc when I go see him next week. So I don't know how normal it is but I know there are several people on it and it works great.

I've taken Provigil on and off for about a year now, and I'm a fan of it. No side effects that I can see, although there were some headaches when I first went on it.
I stopped taking it for a while, and then started it again. When I restarted it, it was the only med I was on for a long time -- and it helped my depression a bit, even though it's not known to have any anti-depressant properties. I suspect that it was just that i felt better able to get things done, which made me feel better. It does seem to be an increasingly common augmentation medication for depression, and it's well worth giving it a try. It's worked consistently and well for me all along, although the headaches were a drag (not a lot of pain, not like a migraine, just a bit of pressure and discomfort), they did pass pretty quickly, and I did feel a bit speedy right at first. Hope that helps.

I was given Provigil for Narcolepsy. I never took it because I am afraid the Provigil will make me manic and get me in trouble. I find that I don't have Narcolepsy if I leave Dairy Products alone. I get a lot of Migraines and I don't like headaches. I have happy this medication has worked out for some of you.
