Anyone here using typical antipsychotics?
I started this med yesterday. 4mg in the evening & 4 mg in the morning. Don't feel a thing (positive). My pdoc put me on this med because I felt super hungry on Risperdal, also it caused a hellish hypotension and I got very tired from physical activity on it. I'm hoping this will keep the hallucinations away, and help the paranoia. My pdoc said it should help it. Any input is welcome.

I hope you do well on this. I was on this a looooooooong time ago and we found out I am deadly allergic to it when I ended up in the ER with my throat swelling shut. Most doc's I know when I tell them I am allergic to it don't know what it is and I have to tell them what it is. But I wish you the best of luck on it.

Oh dang jbug, that sounds bad. Was it helpful at all to you or did you just get to experience the allergic reaction?
![]() It is weird many people are allergic to typical antipsychotics, I had a friend who is allergic to thorazine (trade name i think) which I think is weaker than perphenazine. I'm doing well so far, absolutely no side effects which is wonderful. The only thing that bothers me that I still get freaking paranoid. Absolutely no improvement on that area. :// But I will call my pdoc when her office opens and tell her. Maybe she'll tell me to increase the dose, maybe not. We'll see. Thanks for the reply jbug =)

I started taking this drug on June 23rd and am up to 3-8mg tablets daily at bedtime. After going up to a higher dosage it started helping my panic episodes more than anything else had for quite awhile. I take it at bedtime to help with sleep but I also take Ambien, Nortripyline, Amitripyline and Xanax. Are you taking other medications along with the Perphenazine?

Hey mssumom,
I take lithium carbonate (to balance the moods... not helping much hehe - it helped in the beginning tho) and Seroquel (for sleep). How are you doing so far? Are your panic episodes a part of psychosis? This is kinda personal so you don't have to answer. Though I know that perphenazine is sometimes prescribed as a sedative - I experienced a somewhat mild sedation upon my first dose. Now that I think of it, maybe this is somewhat helping my paranoia, because sometimes I know I'm being irrational. And when I talk to people, they prove me otherwise, and I believe them for a while. :]

Hi Katie,
It is ok to ask me just about anything here, I find that the people I 've met on here and friends I 've made make it very easy for me to talk about my illnesses because they share in the same problems. The panic espisodes are part of my pyschosis diagnosis but a Neurologist who treats me for Narcolepsy that was recently diagnosed says that the panic episodes can be in part due to the Narcolepsy..........who really knows! The Perphenazine is part of my sedation cocktail for bedtime but I also take Xanax twice during the day and 2 pills at bedtime and seems to be helping with the panic. How are you doing tonight? Have you been taking meds for a long time? Take care, Lori |

Hello Lori,
Xanax is a very good drug for panic. I've been taking meds on/off since October 2006 (before that I used to take my friend's tranquilizers). I guess panic related to narcolepsy would have something to do with waking up. I'm no neurologist though, nor have I studied narcolepsy much, but just a guess ![]() I'm not sure if perphenazine is helping much, I'm still paranoid, I think I'm seeing things and stuff like that.. But it's better than taking Risperdal or Seroquel (at the antipsychotic dose - I sleep 12+ hours a day at doses higher than 100 mg). I'll keep taking this just in case :]
