Ativan works faster for me - I'd feel it's effects within 30 min. of taking it. But it's also highly addictive, I think out of all the benzo's it's the most addictive. It also leaves your system pretty quickly so there's a greater chance of rebound anxiety as it wears off.

I'm now on clonazapam (generic name) and find it much better. It doesn't have the same instant effect of Ativan but it stays in your system much longer so it has a longer calming effect without the big ups and downs of Ativan.

I have never taken Klonopin but I have been taking Ativan for several years. Right now I take 2mg at bedtime but have been on a dose as high as 7mg daily. Very rarely do I need the medication other than at bedtime. I find it to work quickly (with a half hour usually). It's worked well for me.

Ativan is a pretty popular Benzo because it is fast acting.

Personally It would not be my drug of choice to prescribe to anyone.

Klonopin can also be addictive but it's still safer then ativan.

Ativan and Klonopin are both benzos. Ativan has a very short half-life hence quicker acting and Klonopin has a much longer half-life which helps to mitigate the interdosal anxiety one can get when taking Ativan.

They are equal in terms of addiction potential and one drug is not "safer" than the other.

Hope that helps!

Because of its longer half-life (refers to how long it stays in the system), klonopin is considered to be less risky in terms of addiction.

I am on ativan. It has never worked for me as I hoped, but it takes the edge off anxiety. I take it every few days now and it provides temporary relief.

I tried clonazapam for anxiety before and it made me irritable and sluggish and just no fun to be around. I now take ReQuip and that works much much better plus it also helps elevate my mood.
