Hi everyone. For 15 years I have been on prozac or other ssri's for unipolar depression and obsessive thinking/anxiety. . I currently take 80 mg. of prozac and 200 mg lamictal. But after a few decent years on prozac it is not working very well.
Prozac, augmented or not with wellbutrin or a stimulant, has been the best ssri for me. My psycdoc says he has many people on more than 80mg/day of prozac and that I can increase my dose if I want. The side effects for me are familiar -- I sleep a lot, so I don't expect any surprises. Anyhow, I'd like to hear from anyone who has taken high doses of prozac (or even beyond "recommended" maximum doses with other ssri's.) Thanks so much, don |

It isn't uncommon for Prozac to stop being helpful. My pdoc didn't use doses higher than 40mg because he said higher dosages weren't proven to be more helpful; instead he would add to the Prozac or replace it with something else.
It's good you're talking to your psychiatrist about this and that he values your input and choices. |

I am currently on 40 mg of P. It is working ok, sometimes, but it is interesting that your pdoc augments with wellbutrin. I may have to try that

Wow, that is a lot of prozac. I tried prozac but the side effects kept me from staying on it. Like you I take lamictal, but I also take wellbutrin and abilify. I have been on each of those meds alone, but they did not help me. It seems they work when I take them as a combo. I think abilify helps my depression and helps with my obsessive thinking/anxiety. If prozac is not working for you, is taking more of it going to help the situation? Good luck.
