I've been taking zoloft in the morning and trazadone at night. While I still feel like I am having feelings of depression, I don't feel like I am really able to feel my emotions. Does this make sense? It's like I feel on the verge of crying, but can't get the tears out. Anyone feel like this?

I've felt similar. I'm not on the same meds but I often have a sense of no emotions.

I take the same combination of drugs for PTSD. Do you take the Trazodone at night or in the morning? And how long have you been on this combination?

I take the trazadone at night. When I first started taking it the label said to take it three times a day, morning, noon, and night. I could barely function! I checked and rechecked with the drs office and they confirmed to take it as instructed. When I went in for a med check I told her that I simply couldn't function. She asked me why I was so tired in the day, and that I should only be taking it at night. I couldn't believe it! Anyways, now it's just at night and it works wonderfully. I have been taking the zoloft and the trazadone for about 3 months. And this past week I added welbutrin to the mix. Not really sure how it works quite yet, but I had major headaches for the first few days. I am being gradually moved up in dosage for the zoloft and welbutrin, but the dosage for the trazadone has remained the same. How has it been working for you?

I take both at night. The trazodone for me is entirely to help my sleep--it helps me go to bed and stay asleep. I love it so much, if I could meet whoever invented it, I would totally jump into his arms and plant a kiss on his cheek! I went from sleeping 2-5 hours with several wakeups throughout the night to 8 solid hours, every night, with only occasional nightmares. It's wonderful!
I'm not sure about the Zoloft. I started that two years ago in the midst of a depression, and I'm not depressed anymore. My doctor keeps me on it because he says it will keep my anxiety down. I know I used to feel much, much worse, so this combo works just fine for me. I hope you find the right combo. |

I know what you mean about your feelings. It is like your emotions are muffled - depression in an overcoat!
You feel rotten and want to cry and you're stuck.....horrid. Depending on how long you have been doing this, you may need to talk to your pdoc. How long should you take something that doesn't really meet the need?? Just me being opinionated. Trazadone always helped me to sleep, but it made me salivate less and my mouth was awful in the mornings. Zoloft never worked for me. Once they got me all the way up to three anti-dep meds and I started having tremors which scared me good! Are you doing anything beyond meds, like therapy for help? I know my counseling has helped a lot. Leslie - Random member of Psych Central

Maybe it's too much change and too fast for your brain to handle and it manifests as anxiety?
I'm sorry you're feeling bad. Taking multiple drugs makes it's harder to pinpoint exactly what's causing the problems. I'd be very cautious about adding another drug to the mix. Hopefully others will weigh in and maybe someone else has been on this mix of drugs. Best wishes. |

Yes, I was on that combo and I felt the same. What help me was to add Wellbutrin to the mix. When we added that (I'm on the highest dose) I felt much more 'normal' with the Zoloft and Trazodone combo. Good luck.
