My memory is getting worse by the minute, or maybe I've always had a horrible memory. I wonder if its my meds.
I take Lamictal and Trileptal. The other day I walked out of the house and realized I forgot to put my shoes on. (I'm so glad it wasn't my pants, ![]() And the last two nights at work I was told which register to go to and not more than five steps away I realized I didn't remember which register and had to turn around to ask again. I am constantly forgeting what I was trying to do. But that has always been an issue although I think it is way more frequent. I will sit down at the computer intending to do something like check a bank account and by the time I open the browser I don't remember what I was going to do in the first place. Maybe I really am ADD or maybe I'm becoming ADD. |

I feel the same way. i forgoet things almost immediatley after being told something. i have to write down EVERYTHING! I'm only taking Wellbutrin XL 300mg. I've been diagnosed with Severe depression, ADD, and slight PTSD. I go to a new pdoc?(primary doc?) Friday to discuss the ADD. My pshycologist think we need to treat the depression first. The Wellbutrin helps with that, but not with the focus and concentration. She believes that you don't really need to take meds for ADD. Her husband has it and doesn't want to take meds because he like to daydream and so I guess she thinks that just behavioral therapy will help me enough. I don't feel like it's going to though. I've been doing what she asks me, but she still won't recommend a stimulant. Aren't stimulants supposed to help with memory?

I'm not sure if they help with memory or not but anything to help would be great.

I had that problem with Wellbutrin years ago -- if your new to the med let it settle in for a month or so and then see what happens. If not try something else.
also look at your diet - if its too high in protien and not enough carbs then you would start to lose short term memory. cheers jds |

My short term memory is pretty full from constant what has now been 2 years long attention to an intense overload of body stimulus that I am constantly stuck interpreting, ranging from zaps to static to pulses to itches. I also forget lots of names of people and some other stuff. (Lots, such as most actors even in movies I know.)
I interpret the number of times I itch myself and the exact location of the itches as signals, and they are NON stop alternating and cycling from left to right throughout my body constantly. Could this be a medication issue? When it first started it was lighter and there was no severe itching and I heard someone on a radio broadcast mention "quantum communication". That is what got me started wtth the interpretation of "signals". I even called 911 about it when it first started. I can't stop focusing on it. It's gotten way way worse. I tried posting a new member introduction here and they deleted it. And when I asked why, they deleted that post as well. I have suspicions as to who is running things here, and also what motivates my so called professional psychiatrists. Any assistance? -911 caller

I'm sorry to hear about your deleted posts Psi
I didn't have a chance to read them so I have no idea why that was. Your overstimilus is quite an interesting problem that I had never heard of before. That must be very difficult to handle. I just want to say welcome to PsychCentral and I hope you may feel supported here. |

I thought I was the only one with memory problems!!!
Sorry to hear that you have it too. It is a real shock to find out, all the things I did not do. Like mail in a bill, without the check? Go through a RED light,I did not realize it until everyone was staring at me. I mistakenly thought the green arrow to turn left was the the GO light. My doctor thinks it is due to the 1 and half mg of Clonazepam that I take a night for my restless leg syndrome.I can't stop taking it, my legs jerk a lot at night.I also tried other sleeping med.'s and they did not work. She also says that Clonazepam causes depression. So, in the meantime, I have to be very careful when I go out or write bills. I feel your pain. Take care, ![]() ![]() ![]() |

i have almost 0 short term memory, and have recently found many gaps in my long term. i don't believe mine is caused by meds. however, if you think yours may be then you should discuss it with your dr. IMHO

I think my memory loss may be caused by anxiety. I had a terrible anxiety attack during my I.Q. test and scored low. Therefore I think it may be ongoing since then. I am forgetting lots of words. Someone help.

Had to give up a big part of my job due to memory problems. Try to cover it up that I don't remember things--fake it, esp. with my kids (they're grown). So humiliating to ask a ques. & then have one of them say "I already told you that." So I just don't ask any ques. & pretend like I know what is going on. On 6 meds for bipolar 1, Concerta for ADHD, Klonopin for anxiety.--Suzy

My memory problems are extremely bad... The meds are definitely a contributing factor! Initially my doctors were telling me it was not the drugs, forget that it is the drugs!!!

If something is worth remembering you will remember it. By all intents and purposes my memory should have been destroyed through my drinking habits in the past. The brain has a way for compensating for neurone damage caused by alcohol abuse.
I was born with a fantastic memory, even the drugs and alcohol have not damaged my long term memory. However I must say I have difficulty remembering what I ate for dinner the day before, but that's normal I guess. |

Meds definitely affecting my memory--spelling, vocab., math skills, remembering names, all of it gone really down hill. I've had to give up a large portion of my job due to the poor memory functions.
One funny thing at work when I was trying to cover it up (when I was still dealing with the public): a woman was charging some items on a "house charge" (at a health club pro shop) so I was ringing her up & have known her for at least 15 years & COULD NOT REMEMBER HER LAST NAME to write on the receipt so rather slyly (I thought) I said "I don't remember how to spell your last name." She said "S-M-I-T-H!" Yikes!! UGH--Suzy |

The only medication I take is Risperidal for "Schizo Affective Disorder". I somehow doubt that "schizo affective" causes extreme full on body focus and confusion/distraction including itching, shocks, pulses, clicks and static at all hours/minutes/seconds.
