I have had pain in my wrist since my car accident last summer. it is not getting better. My neuro dr. says it is an ortho problem and my ortho dr says it is a neuro problem. I said i don't care who's problem it is I AM IN PAIN.
The ortho dr gave me a cortisone shot last night and this morning i was in such severe pain it is still hurtin 10x worse than before the shot -- the dr won't be in until tomorrow -- is this severe severe severe pain normal after a cortisone shot -- i've had them before in my knee with no problem
that's all i have the abilty to manage to type i need to lay down again it hurts so bbaaaaddddd.
thanks

Sounds like it hit too close to a nerve or something. I had a cortisone shot into a wrist, and it hurt, my wrist was numb and then painful -- but nothing like what you're describing.

It does sound as though something is Not Right. Is there any sort of urgent care you can go to?

By the way, this comes only from my ignorance, but this might mean that this really is a neuro problem...

Hi Vanna. I am sorry I did not read this till now. Your problem is a PAIN SPECIALIST problem. If you are still in pain go to the ER as soon as you can. That's what my Pain Doc says.I have to get the shots myself.Lower Lumbar area in my back, both knees, and shoulder. After the shot..you can expect maybe a little discomfort..but not your kind of pain. Please let us know how you are doing! cortisone shot problems

I think Genevieve has hit it on the head. The injection into the carpal tunnel always risks hitting a nerve, as the median nerve passes through the same space, with the inflamed tendons.

Certainly tylenol or better, ibuprofen, might help ease it a bit. You could try icing it, too.

If it's still bad after 24 hours, I'd get it looked at by a doctor, soon.

thanks everyone --
went to the doctor -- he said it sometimes happens when the cortisone crystalizes in the joint. he gave me vicodin and sent me home from work fro 3-4 days (the length of time he felt it would take to get better)
I am feeling better now
thanks
