I had taken Abilify but stopped it because of side effects. Am now given Seroquel. Is there a real difference between these drugs or will I have the same side effects. Anyone else have side effects from these two drugs as well?

Well...I have no side effects from abilify but I had horrible side effects from seroquel. I think everybody is different...maybe it will work for you.

I was given abilify first, had bad side effects. Then given seroquel, same thing. Now im on lithium. No side effects. But pdoc wants to up it more. Hopefully i dont get side effects when that happens.

Let us know how the seroquel works out.

Ive been on both.I did not like the side effects from Abilify at all ! I lasted a week but ive been on seroquel for 3 years now and love it .The trick is to find the right dose for you that may take some time .
I only take it at night before bed time it makes you sleepy and you head in a fog which is one of the side effects but it works for 24 hours so once you sleep off that side effect your fine the next day and you get a great night sleep which i never had before. The next bad side effect is weight gain it makes you hungry as hell and slow you metabolism down. after gaining 50 lb.I had it . I now watch my diet and keep track of what I eat and I work out now and most of all I went to GNc and on thee Internet and found different pills that speed up my metabolism naturally .I lost all the weight and great.

Seroquel works great but most people hate the side effects so much they dont wont to take it .You have to learn to live with the side effects of all mental health drugs because the best ones most of the time have the worst side effects.

The two I take are L-Caritine and Chromium I take the first and my wife takes the second because its not as strong .You find at any store -Acme- Gnc -Cvs they are in most weight loss pill but I dont need are that other crap they put in to them because of my meds. I have to be careful what I take . I would recommend the first Carnitine there are no side effects which I can tell of and it doesn't make you speed like weight loss pills do. I've loss 47 pounds in the last 5 months with a good diet of cause but I can tell that metabolism has speed up .Most meds. do a good job of slow your metabolism it seems like almost to a stop.Seroquel is the worst of all the meds. out there but but its a great med so I wont want to stop taken it its made a big change in my life .Sleep for one I never slept right because when im manic but know I sleep great and that sleep make a big difrent in how you feel and the better you better you can deal with a mental illness. Sorry I got off the subject .I have alot of other tricks over the years I learned alot .My advice to you is to learn as much as you can and all was try new things to find out what works and what doesn't .

Seroquel makes me extremely sleepy so I take it at night. (300mg)
It has helped with the suicidal thoughts but now I am hallucinating on a regular basis. I guess the risk out way the benefits?

I tried Seroquel and could barely remain in reality after one pill.

My doc suggested Abilify, but I said NO WAY.

The major differences beween the two:

Seroquel is very sedating.

Abilify is capable of causing symptoms such as muscle stiffness, rare cases of tardive dyskinesia... a lot of times Cogentin is prescribed along with Abilify to help with the muscle stuff.

When I was on Abilify I had no side affects.I also was only on it for about a month. Seroquel on the other hand I have been put o two different times at different doses. Oh my God the weight I have gained is not worth the improvment in my sleep. I have gained 50 pounds in about 5 months. I go to the gym every other day and still gain the weight even with diet.

Seroquel is the only one i have been on and was for 6 years. Its all about finding the right dosage, which took me about a year. But I was being careful. Yes it will make you a bit sleepy and the first 2 weeks will be hard. I never had the weight issues or diabetes issues, but the sleepiness made up for both! Its all about your chemistry.

i have recently been taken off of seroquel due to tarditive kinesis. i didn't have control of my facial muscles and had difficulty expressing my true emotive ideas in conversation. i am searching for a known pathway to regain optimum mental health.

I had to stop Seroquel because of various side effects (weight gain, difficulty swallowing, altered hormone levels, rage). I'm on Abilify now, but had to cut back on it a little because of restlessness. I doing okay on it at the lower dose.
I mentioned the side effects of Seroquel because I'm wondering if anyone else encountered the swallowing problems and rage. Luckily, the anger is gone now.

i've been on both, and i prefer the seroquel. it is sedating so i take it at night. i guess it really depends on the individual. everyone responds differently to medications. i hope it works out for you.

I was on abilify for two weeks. I just didn't feel right. I then was put on Seroquel. I never realized about the weight gain. I was overweight. One day I decided to loss weight. I am still on the Serequel, but I have loss 115lbs. I must be some kind of freak. I did not take any kind of diet pill. I just changed my diet and started exercising. Thanks.
