Seroquel (300mg) has been awesome for anxiety and mania, not great for depression though. Side effects suck, but they really do get better.

Hi Cthomas
I'm on 800 mgs of Seroquel. I'm so grateful this medication exists!! IDK if there is a generic if yes, Target's generics are $4.00. Also mention you do not have Rx insurance to you Psy. Dr. (free samples may be available) Side effects do exist on Seroquel but decreased suicidal thoughts & it was one of the things that helped to lift a long bout of depression, I put up w/ side effects. Best of Luck. Holmes

PS I started out on lower doses ~2 1/2 yrs ago & gradually increased to the 800 mgs.
Seroquel anybody?

I couldn't get past one 25 mg pill.... but that's just me. I'm quite sensitive to meds. There was no way I could function on that %#@&#!. I felt detached and out of reality from one pill.

Anyone here know of Seroquel's effectiveness in Panic Disorder and Generalized Anxiety Disorder?

I don't have a depressive disorder...

After I was up to 300 mg, my doctor told me he wanted me to try to function without the xanax, I was so frustrated because I had just begun to cope. But he was right. For me and my anxieties Seroquel has been fabulous. I not only cope, I function!

I stay in my bedroom, have been there for three years. Before the Seroquel, if I left the house it had to be planned out to the most minute detail. I knew where we were going, the route we were taking, what exactly we were going for etc. My first outing after being on Seroquel I was faced with two separate 10 rated anxiety situations that didn’t phase me a bit.

Now don’t get me wrong, it hasn’t turned me into a social butterfly. I still prefer being home, but I am now able to go out in the world and function when I have to.

I know pink had some horrible side effects on 25 mg, I did too, you’re a zombie. My doctor anticipated this I started taking the meds on Monday and had an appointment with him on Friday. I told him there’s no way in hell I can keep taking them, it’s horrible. He said “stick with it, it’ll get better.” It did. For some reason the higher the dose the less the side effects. They were horrible until I started taking 200 mg.

But, like I said, it hasn't been really great for the depression that I now find as a part of my cycle.

I am taking 200mg of Seroquel but I take it with so many other things at bedtime that I'm not sure which helps the most. I had some issues with plummeting blood pressure when I was taking 600mg but on 200 going slowly back up to 300mg next week along with, 2 Ambien, 2 Xanax, 3 Phenarazine, 75mg Amitripyline and 125mg Nortriptyline all at bedtime at least knock me out for 4-5 hours but I haven't seen big improvements in my anxiety or PTSD symptoms. ECT treatments everyother week seem to be doing more for my major depressive symptoms.
The Seroquel is horribly expensive, when my insurance was canceled for about 6 weeks I couldn't take it at all because it was $639.00 for a month supply of 60 pills.
I hope things work out for you, like was said before be sure and ask your Psych doc for samples of Seroquel and hopefully he/she will have some available for you.

Take care!

Well for a little while, as I was falling asleep I felt a sort of anxiety attack. I don't remember exactly when that stopped happening. I know that after 2 weeks the side effects were just about gone for me.

Seroquel is a wonder drug for me. It only took a few days for it to kick in. I'm on 100mg and it keeps my mania (bipolar disorder) in check. It saved my job at the very least.

Honestly, Seroquel works and aleviates my paranoid symptoms...

However, my mid-section is huge right now. This is a new thing I never gain weight in this area and I look pregnant (I'm not trust me)...

Going off Seroquel unfortunately...I am on 100mg

I wish going off was an option for me. I too have that pregnant look. But I've waited so long for a drug to work that I just don't want to ditch it at this point.

I just wanted to share how this miracle drug helped me today. My anxiety was such that I needed to know exactly where we were going, how long we were going to be there and what exact route we were going to take to and from. (Had to be the same route home as we took there.

Hubby had a medical proceedure today that required him to have a driver home, in an unfamiliar CITY (we're in a rural area) 3 hours away and off the freeway a LONG way. I just assumed he used MS Trips and Streets to map out our route. Turns out he was just following the hospital signs in the city.

So he's dopey on the way home with no clue how to get back to the freeway. A year ago I would have been reduced to tears at a gas station with a map and a highlighter. I would have remained very angry for a long long time.

Today I was as cool as a cucumber. I knew we had to head north and I just kept following streets north until I found the freeway. We ended up taking the back way to a city that I'm more familiar with. It took a couple of U - turns in parking lots, but I got us home.

quetiapine is the generic name for seroquel.... it has existed for a few years atleast. As far as I know. I took 600 or 800 mg a day. I didn't like the effects bc it caused me to lactated after a while. I guess it can in women and supposedly it is possible in women too... some other meds can too bc some meds can effect levels of prolactin in the body causing u to lactate. Well, by that time I was so sedated from that med and was put on Clozaril overlapping and had a severe allergic reaction to it that I didn't realize it-- Cardiomyopathy. I was in the ICU for a week. The docs didn't explain anything to me bc I wouldn't have remembered or understood and probly wouldn't have been able to take the stress as it was. As it was I wasn't happy with the whole Idea of having albuterol and oxygen and a catheter especially when the staff was inserting it using a flashlight was all but impressed haha. But I'm here to tell the story luckily. My point is be mindful. Yes there is a generic. Just bc it works for one person doesn't work for another and vice versa. Take care all, Danielle

Yeah, I don't tend to have much luck with the generics myself, in any form of medication. With my IBS meds, a bottle of the name brand will last me several months as I only need one dose, while I have to keep eating (they are supposed to dissolve in your mouth, g doesn't) the g and the bottle won't last me a month.

My pdoc had given me samples of seroquel when my depression was bad & other meds wouldn't work........I didn't take it at that time because I didn't like the dizzy & drunk, handover feeling I would have the next morning after taking it, or the absolutely drunk feeling I would have if I stayed awake after taking it.

However after the trauma I went through with the home care person when my Mother was dying of cancer, I needed something to stop the horrible nightmares & the depersonalization symptoms that were continually haunting me. He first tried the xanax & valium.....with absolutely no effect. I had lost so much weight I was in the hospital with IV nutrition & decided to try the samples I had leftover from before. They knocked me out allright, it was the only good night sleep I could get.......mine you, at that time, I was weighing only 93 pounds, & was on 600mg at night & then during the day, I would take a lesser dose if I needed to handle anxiety levels then.

Considering the horrible side effects I usually got from other med, like with thorzine, I got the parkinsons symptoms, etc., I was amaized that the only effect was feeling drunk. Compared to the horrible way I felt without it, it was a miracle drug for me & for several years after that while the PTSD really haunted me, I took the seroquel. I stopped taking it when I separated from my husband & moved from California to Kentucky. I didn't feel good having that drunk feeling while being alone.....if something happened & I needed to function quickly, it would have been out of the question......but honestly, since I have moved to Kentucky, it seems that I left the PTSD symptoms in California & I have started being able to live normally again without the need for the meds.

I am thankful the Seroquel worked when I needed it however......hope you find it works well for you......but one never knows how your body will react to a med until you try it.

Debbie

Did a 25 mg dose, or any other dose for that matter, cause a severe migraine or headache for anyone?
Thanks,
Okie

Honestly, I couldn't tell if it caused a migraine or not as so many other of the AD's they tried me caused the migraines. I am on pain medication for continuous migraines & was on the pain medication while taking the seroquel......so couldn't tell you about that if it was part of the migraine situation, I wouldn't have known.

I know however that many of the AD's do cause horrible migraine's as that was one of the most common side effects that I would end up with.

Hope you will be able to tell,
Debbie

Hi Debbie,
I called the pharm and he said it was not a usual side effect, so better to stop taking. I hate it when one drugs makes one have to take a bunch more just to handle it! So, will have to think of something else for sleep.

Ever try Sonata?
Love,
Okie

I was put on 25 mg. of seroquel for sleep. (My husband also filed for divorce against me and left me in near-destitution. He is a physician, we were married for 21 years, and have 2 children. I am presently non-functional.)

I was very slender all of my life, but have packed on 20 lbs. over the past year and-a-half. I have very little motivation to live, and really stay alive for my 15 year-old daughter and my little dog.

I need the seroquel to sleep, and sleeping is about the only thing I look forward to. I don't know if the weight gain is due to the seroquel (I'm also taking Prozac, 20.mg., and klonopin .25-.5 mg. daily.)

I feel like a log. I always had a great sense of humor and fought to live (I've struggled with depressions for 35 years.)

I am also on a strict, self-imposed 1200 calorie/day diet. I don't eat sweets, but I drink 2 glasses of red wine every day.<font color="#000088"> </font>
