Hi,
I've been taking citalopram for the last 9 months or so and I'm wanting to stop as I feel that I don't need them any more. Is there any support, warnings or recommendations that anyone can give? Take Care, Amy x |

speak to your dr and follow his advice. many drugs have horrible withdrawal effects that dr can help you avoid or at least lessen.

Wadders!
Whatever you do, DON'T GO OFF CITALOPRAM without talking to your doctor first. I was on 40mg/day for about nine months (this was several months ago) when I decided to stop taking it. A few days later, I was at the university health center undergoing neurological tests because nobody could figure out why I was so sick and dizzy. I couldn't eat because I got nauseated, and every time I sat up or stood up I would feel like I was going to pass out. Basically I was incapacitated. Finally we realized that it was withdrawal. Guess that explains why I was feeling so depressed too -- I really hadn't made the connection at all, maybe being off the meds was messing with my thinking too, I don't know. I was on a pretty high dose, but I've heard that people on lower doses go through the same thing, even if they wean themselves off it slowly. About a month ago I had to miss two doses and started feeling dizzy again immediately. Anyway, I sure hope you read this and save yourself some trouble. best of luck, annie bell

Thanks for the advice, I accidentally missed 2 doses this week and yesterday I felt awful...until I'd taken a tablet.
It doesn't fill me with confidence to be honest and it is something I'm quite apprehensive about but it's something that I need to do. I'm going to have a bit of time off the booze and then speak to my doctor. |

I'm coming off of fluoxotine (gen. Prozac) slowly - 20mg daily but am working with my Dr. to do it. I think what I am doing is nothing like the other drugs you're mentioning - but keep in mind work with your doctor. They have certain methods to help people come off a drug - but be careful with doing it yourself. It's not adviseable.

With all the hubbub about ssri withdraw its probably better ease off the med rather than just stop cold turkey. I cold turkey'd off both effexor and cymbalta (supposedly the worse actors) and didn't get much more than a head rush ( it feels like your brain is 'flipping' ) once in a while for a couple of days. Not pleasent but not disabling. Follow the Doc's advise, that is what it comes down to (not us armchair assistants). Be well and good luck.........................yutzman
