Does anyone use mood stabilizers for depression?

Hi,
I'm on lamotrigine, and my psychiatrist says I'm bipolar 2, but I'm not sure.
Has anyone used and been successful with epival (I was on it), lithium or lamotrigine, for depression. I'm not on any anti-depressants -they made me high or didn't work.
