[colorink]This is a question for people who take the medications...and those who have taken, and are now off the medications. (( For Depression ))

I want to know if the medication worked for you, and for how long...?

Basically ...are they worth taking. Yes I know my best bet is to see a doctor and try them myself, but I'm curious to know what others have experienced...

Thankyou...

Also...is there any medication for any sort of dissociative disorder or is that kinda thing handled through therapy only ..?[/color]

The only medication for dissociative disorders is therapy, not drugs. I can't answer any of the other questions, since I am not on meds.

Hubby's pdoc told us there is no medicine to treat DID. There are meds to treat the symptoms such as anxiety, but no, there is no medicine that I have heard of. Therapy has been wonderful for him. He's come so far in only a few months.

Hubby's been on Zoloft for about 2 years. Works well with him. As with any med, you have to let your body adjust to them. The important thing to remember is everyone reacts to medicine differently. Hubby used to take Seroquel, which made him EXTREMELY tired at 25 mg...other people I know take 500mg with no tiredness at all. It all depends on the person.

"Worth" also depends on the person. For my husband, it is so worth it. He was becoming a different person...now, he is getting back to the man I fell in love with. Other people do better without meds.

Please Advise The meds are more for treating the symptoms, not the disorder itself. I have borderline personality disorder, among others, and I am currently on Celexa and Seroquel. I believe that a combo would be the best bet. Meds to help calm the symptoms, and therapy to help 'deal' with the issues.

Lilah:

Just saw the post and wanted to say that I am on Prozac for the depression that I have. Xanax for anxiety disorder.

My female parent has dissociative disorders and recurrent major depression. That is her first diagnosis. She is on Lexapro for depression and Risperdal for psychosis.

But therapy, several years of intensive therapy are really the only way to deal with severe dissociative disorders. Good luck.
