so my pdoc is on leave but we've tried most of the anti-depressants and mood stabilisers and antipsychotics available. and yet i'm still living in a depressive slump.

only things i haven't tried are: MAOIs, TCAs and lithium.

just wondering why i continue to take my meds every day. they seem to do nothing. i don't even get side effects, anymore.

you should keep taking them because some meds can have bad effects when stopped suddenly without the proper tapering under supervision. Also, if you aren't getting side-effects why not wait until your pdoc gets back?

(((deli))) I hope you're feeling better today...don't stop the meds, at least not with out the dr's help. I take Wellbutrin and I can tell a difference in effectiveness between brand name and generic. Do you take generics?

Liberada, I was goint to ask if deliquesce had tried Wellbutrin as well. But, there are two types of Wellbutrin. There is Wellbutrin, that came out ages and ages ago. I took it and ended up in the mental hospital, because it never lifted my depression and the deppression got too bad.

But, now I take Wellbutrin XL and it works better. I'm not sure of the difference. Maybe it's because of a time-release component that W XL has?
My mother takes it too, and said it changed her life!

Wellbutrin XL is in a class of it's very own. It's unlike any other anti-depressant out there, chemically.

Anyway, it might be worth a try, if you haven't tried already.
Zoloft was helpfull too, until it stopped working after a few years. That's when I switched to WXL.
Plus WXL does not have a wieght gain side-effect!

i dont take generics. but i have never tried wellbutrin. i tried to google it but it doesn't look like it's available in Australia? maybe it's under a different name, but i don't know what it is.

do you know what class of anti-depressant it is? I'm currently on an SNRI and an SSRI.

deliquesce, don't give up! I have also been on a ton of meds--some of them more than once. I have finally stabilized on Wellbutrin and Seroquel. I have tried the Seroquel twice in the past but it had too many side effects and did not work for me. I think our mind and body change over time because this is my 3rd time trying the Seroquel and it is doing wonders for me. I think it is working really well with the Wellbutrin. So, don't give up! I know it is hard but as long as you keep trying to find the med combo then you have a chance of finding one that works for you. If you quit the meds there is no chance...know what I mean? hang in there...

Don't give up on the medications. I'm diagnoses with major depression, ptsd, borderline personality, eating disorder nos, dissociative do nos. I also deal with suicidal ideation and self-injury. It took me two years to find the best combination.

But, some people have the mistaken idea that it is supposed to be a magic pill. But, I see it as a therapeutic tool to just take the edge off the emotions, so that you can work in therapy. I'm still depress and anxious, but not as much as when I am not on medications. I can sleep for three hours at a time which is a huge improvement. Right now, due to what I am dealing with in therapy, my symptoms have all increased. But, I can't imagine how much worse it would be if I didn't have them. Well, I know that I would be in the hospital.

The other thing is DO NOT stop taking your medications without your psychiatrist tapering you off...he can't force you to take it. If not monitored, you can have serious and possibly lethal side effects.
