Accidently ran out yesterday but by the time I realized it I felt too sick to go out to get more. Now I'm twitching all over the place and feel really awful. My husband will get them soon, for me but in the meantime...is it supposed to feel this bad?

it's an amphetamine, right..? i've been on different prescribed ones for many years. if for on reason or another i stopped abruptly the first day is the worst- no, REAlly bad. it takes about four days to be able function again, although you dont FEEL like it, you can do something other than cry and not wanna get outa bed. your body is dependant on it and

Thank you for the reply. It was a very hard night going without the meds. Yes, it is amphetamine. I finally got them and feel a lot better. I wish I wasn't on something so addicting.

Calista, I am on Vyvanse, an amphetamine if a different sort of formulation. It is gradually released as a precursor to the amphetamine and then must be metabolized to the active amphetamine. This results in what my prescriber refers to as "smooth" and she says this drug has lower addiction potential because of that (there is no quick jolt or buzz). I have been on this drug since about June and do not feel addicted to it. I can stop taking it for a few days and have no withdrawal symptoms at all. (The only symptoms I have are more sleepy and less able to focus, but I don't consider these to be signs of addiction.)

Perhaps you would like to try a less addictive type of amphetamine such as Vyvanse?

Thank you sunrise. I never heard of Vyvanse before. I'll have to ask my p doc about it. It sounds like it would work well.

My understanding is that Vyvanse is just the prodrug of dextroamphetamine...in other words, it breaks down into Dexedrine after you take it.

But maybe the delayed effect changes the equation, I'm not sure.

Definitely ask your doc, don't take my word for it...

Yes, that is exactly why I thought Vyvanse might be a good solution. After Vyvanse is metabolized, it is the same drug as dextroamphetamine, but yet it has very low addiction potential (and no street value either, because of this). So with Vyvanse you get the benefit of dextroamphetamine without the addiction risk. (No, I'm not a pharma rep for Shire! )

Let us know what your doc says, Calista.

OK, gotcha.

I take it too, so low addiction risk sounds good to me!!
