Just want to get people's views on Xanax compared to other anti-anxiety meds (including Klonopin). Xanax

I take Xanax but I've never taken anything else for anxiety. As far as I know, the difference between Xanax and Klonopin is that Xanax works alot faster. Usually within 5-10 minutes for me.

I haven't had any real problems with it. I am still on my initial start dose .5 mg. / day and have been on it since September. It does make me feel groggy and it does affect your memory. Or for me it does. But the benefits outweigh the side effects for me personally.

Good luck,
Kimberly.

I personally do not like Xanax. I have heard that klonopin and ativan is pretty good as well but I have never actually taken Ativan or klonopin. I currently take Effexor XR which helps a whole lot with my anxiety and depression. Xanax makes me feel groggy, tired and poopy. I don't like feeling that way.

I have taken Xanax, Klonopin and Ativan, and of the three, Klonopin is the slowest the act, but lasts the longets as far as calming effect. Ativan is middle-of the road; takes about 45 min to kick in, then its lights out. Xanax had a very quick reaction time for me (10-15 min) but its effects wore off after 3-4 hours.

I battle with panic attacks, so I have been on a lot of different dosages of all three meds, but Ativan is the newest one. I have to say, even tho it may take its time, Klonopin does the trick if the attack isn't too severe.

I take Klonopin now but it doesn't even touch my anxiety. I take it for RLS. I take Xanax for my anxiety and it works really well but now my pdoc is starting to give me a really hard time about being on 2 anti-anxiety meds. She's threatening to take my Xanax away from me. God help me if she does that. Xanax

Xanax is essentially the quickest acting sedative in popular use. Quick onset means it dosen't last long though (also makes it very addictive). It's great for panic attacks. Klonopin probably lasts roughly twice as long (with slower onset). If you use either medicine often enough, tolerance can develop. However many people take these every day for years with no problems. We prefer to treat anxiety over the long-run with an SSRI antidepressant though (Paxil, Lexapro, etc.).

Its kinda hard to treat my anxiety since i am resistant to SSRI's due to my bi-polar. I agree on the effectiveness of Xanax and Klonopin. I have been on Klonopin for a little over a year with one dosage increase. If i take it regularly, i can expect to have a fairly panic free day.

Every person is different, just thought I'd share my experience with both meds.
