...my birthday present from the university. It went ok, I think - didn't quite manage to say everything I was hoping to, but never mind. Started off talking about the hair pulling, and moved on to how past school experiences are affecting my university relationships. She also said she was "shocked" at how my previous therapy ended (long story) - was good to get some more validation there.

I was worried before I went that I'd get told something along the lines of "that's no big deal, you don't need to come here" , but it wasn't like that at all! Sounds like it's going to be about four or five sessions initially, and then see where we go from there. You can't see them more than ten times because of resource constraints, but it would be good if I didn't need to go for that long...

Rio, I'm glad you hear you finally got to your first session and it sounds like a good first session. I'm so glad you got to talk about the hair-pulling. It sounds like you two hit it off well!

That must feel so good to not have that worry come true. And I am so glad you got validation about the way therapy ended before. Great start!

its good you have counselling. what if you need help after the 10 sessions? Thats not very long to see someone for. How long were you in therapy for before?

Thanks, ECHOES! It was a pretty good session, I think - she originally seemed to be seeing the hair pulling as a form of self-punishment, but once I'd made it clear I didn't see it that way she didn't have a problem with that. I'd not really talked much about early high school stuff the last time I was in therapy, partly because the one time I did get into it I got told something along the lines of "maybe it's time to let it go"...

Thanks, crystalrose. If you need help after the 10 sessions, there's an NHS therapist on campus as well - she did suggest that to me as an option, but since I'd just spent the past 50 minutes telling her all this stuff, I didn't really want to have to start again from the beginning with someone else. I was in therapy for six months last time, until my parents and my therapist decided I'd had enough. I'm hoping I don't need to go for too long this time, though.

well thats good you have options. Try not to put limits on yourself when it comes to therapy though even though you don't think you will need therapy for long, maybe you will need it longer. Maybe you wont. Just try not to put limits on yourself.
