I have to miss T this week because my flight to my grandfather's funeral is earlier than my T appointment. Is it selfish to not want to miss my T appointment? For all that I need to deal with some issues I'm having with T, I was also hoping to talk about my anxiety about flying and dealing with my parents who I don't have a very good relationship with. I'm just stressed out. I know I should reach out to T for support, but I feel disconnected and don't want to have to go through the stress of reconnecting. Plus I feel numb. I just feel so something. Not quite sure. I feel like I should do a fill in the blank. Then I would be able to figure it out.

I feel ________ (adjective).

Ugh, I understand. I make every effort to arrange my life around my T schedule.

Can you call T and ask for an earlier appointment? I know it is hard to reach out. But it can help you manage some of this numbness, maybe?
Thanks for this!

It is absolutely not selfish to not want to miss your T appt. I see it as good self care which is important.

I, too, revolve my plans around my schedule with T as much as possible. Since I go to group on Tuesdays and individual T on Thursdays, it's hard to plan anything that isn't more than a couple days.

I had the opportunity to extend a nice, free vacation I had last summer which I hesitated to go on initially because I'd be missing group...ended up having a great time but I STILL went home the day I scheduled to just so I didn't have to miss my individual T appt.

Ugh.

Would your T be able to squeeze in a phone session with you prior to your trip?

I could see myself having an imaginary session with T in my sleep or something to address my issues....and just knowing what he'd say....that may sound crazy, but....well, ok...it may be....but that's me!
